4.0 out of 5 stars In the gas station bathroom, January 5, 2004
By
This review is from: To Chase Away the Birds (Audio CD)
Any "Christian" act that starts out the closing track of an album with "In the gas station bathroom by the condom machine I heard the word of the Lord" has my vote. A lot of people want to talk about the life-changing experience of a Waterdeep show or testimony, but the ongoing honesty of Don Chaffer's writing is what keeps me a fan. I despise the sentimentalized version of Christianity that doesn't deal with the alternating brutality and mundane boredom of real life. Chaffer doesn't back down from it, and his writing embraces honest searching.
If you don't like mellow acoustic guitar and easy singing, you don't want this.

5.0 out of 5 stars Without a Doubt the My Favorite Album..., June 19, 2002

The title of my review says it all. If you are part of Waterdeep's major following (like me), then you know what I am talking about. If you don't, listen to what I have to say. Hearing this CD and then seeing them in concert changed my viewpoint of this CD and also my spiritual views with God.

The band consists of duo vocalist/lead guitarist, a religious husband and wife in their mid-to-late 20's who spread the message of God through uplifting voiced praise. At the concert I went to, the drummer had an amazing drum solo in between songs. I was amazed at his playing by far of the others. Waterdeep also consist of a great bass player and keyboardist. Together they are fantastic. Along with their unbelievable sound, they praise God for all he has done for them, and their love for Him.

I commented only on this album because it is the only one I have heard from them. Needless to say I will definitly purchase the others. In closing I have been to many concerts and have seen some major performances by many main-stream artists. Only one concert stands out in my mind. Seeing Waterdeep in a major parish's gym with a crowd of only 200 people was a life changing experience for me.

Oh, and by the way, Waterdeep out-played Blink-182's embarassing, and not to mention obscene failure at Pop Disater Tour 2002 which I believe was a pretty big set back for such a major band.
Buy all of Waterdeep's albums, i know I'm going too.

5.0 out of 5 stars THE review. Just kidding., July 22, 2001
This review is from: To Chase Away the Birds (Audio CD)
Well,

All I have to say is if you like good music, this album should be yours. As should anything these people have made. Waterdeep is a very talented group of individuals who are committed to making good, original music, with very deep, spiritually bold (translation: you can actually tell they're Christians, they aren't ashamed of Jesus) lyrics. This is an early album, and it only gets better. This album took a while for me to get - but it was worth the wait. A great album from a great band, that is non-compromising both with their message, and their music. In short, worshipfully poetic, beautifully put together stuff that should be owned and enjoyed by far more people than are currently owning and enjoying it. Buy it.

4.0 out of 5 stars The best of Waterdeep (excluding the live stuff), August 10, 2000
By
This review is from: To Chase Away the Birds (Audio CD)
The best studio album to date from Waterdeep! "Get Me Clear" and "Everybody's Guilty" will be repeating in your mind all day after a quick fix of Don, Lori and co. "Sweet River Roll," a true classic, was good enough to put on their national debut, "Everyone's Beautiful." To Chase Away the Birds just flows so smoothly, you must experience it for yourself.

4.0 out of 5 stars Awesome Praise Music, July 31, 2000

Sweet River Roll is my favorite praise song on this album. The whole cd is rad praise worthy music. It's accoustic, Dave Matthews like music, with a twist of Jars of Clay. I love the group and cd, and so will you.
