5.0 out of 5 stars Another Great Book
Again, I'm not disappointed in L.J. Smith. She is such a good author. If only she would write MORE three part series. I highly recommend this series. You've GOT to read it. The things that happen in this book are so.....freaky, they give me the shivers every time I read it.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not as good as the others
I enjoyed this book, but I didn't like the way you had to wait until half way into it before the game started and Julian came along. He's my favourite character, and I really feel Jenny should have just gone with him! That being said, it's a good book and you HAVE to read it! I've set up a Yahoo! group called THeforbiddenGame to talk about it, so if you like these books...

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Book, June 27, 2006

This book though not as good as books 1 and 3 is still very good. I loved the scene were Julian and Jenny meet face to face for the first time since the last book. We get to see Jenny's character development and every scene with Julian and Jenny is Just Fabulous. I strongly recommend this trilogy........these books are great beach reads.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very much a middle book, May 12, 2003

"celes1" (Havre de Grace, Maryland United States) - See all my reviews
Jenny and her friends are dealing with the aftermath of the events of the first book. No one believes them about their friend's death and the paper house is still missing. When they finally find the paper house it is ripped to shreds and they don't know if Julian was released or not. All is soon reveled and they begin a new deadly game where Jenny's friends are disappearing one by one.

This book wasn't nearly as good as the first one. The first half of the book is pretty dull. The action does pick up but it's barley enough to make up for the first half. I did like how we got to know the characters better but I didn't like how little Julian there was. The book kind of struck me as a filler book but I'm sure the last in the series will be much better.

This book is def.a must buy! all you L.J.Smith fans out there HAVE got to get this! If you read the first book, then this book i can tell you right off, is better. Julian comes back to stalk jenny with a new game,"LAMBS AND MOSTERS". Julian is the greatest villian and he is irresistible, and he would do anything to win the game and the game's prize...Jenny.

5.0 out of 5 stars The BEST of all three, August 6, 2000
By A Customer
I really like The Forbidden Games Trilogy. It's the best one by L.J Smith. You feel as if you're really there with Jenny and her friends. I love all the characters especially Dee. It's sweet how Julian loves Jenny so much (he has been watching her since she was 5 years old)! I like Julian, he's gorgeous and sweet! But he does have his dark side. I disagree with most people on how Jenny should have surrendered to Julian. Everyone says that Tom didn't deserve Jenny or love her enough which is not true! Tom really did love her as much as Julian, and I think she made the right choice to stick with Tom. If you haven't read the Forbidden Game trilogy then I think you're really missing out! Get the books NOW!

5.0 out of 5 stars An Excellent Trilogy, An Excellent Book!, November 2, 1997
By A Customer
This trilogy does well under the pressure of the standards Ms. Smith has made with her other books. I would have been shocked at anything less from this author. Julian, a Shadow Man from another realm, has been released from the dollhouse once again, and he's coming for Jenny! I agree with most people that she should have gone with Julian, but he did some pretty evil stuff, and maybe she couldn't have lived with herself if she had given into him. I don't think, like some people, that Tom wasn't worthy of her love. He really did love her. So, in other words, either way it would have gone, I would have still liked it. The characters had real feelings, the games are really interesting, and the plot was definitely great. Read it and then read all the rest of her books. You won't be sorry!

5.0 out of 5 stars Even better than the first..., May 23, 2001
By
After trapping Julian in his own shadow world, Jenny hoped that he would never return. What she didn’t count on however, was the game being stolen and the two teenage thieves managing to free the Shadow Man. Now Julian is back and this time he’s angry…

Jenny is offered the chance to play a new game: lambs and monsters. The lambs are Jenny and her friends and they don’t stand a chance against Julian and his shadow creatures, the creeper and the lurker. One by one, Jenny’s friends are being captured and transported to the Shadow World. It is up to Jenny to defeat Julian and rescue Tom, Zach and the others. But the shadow man is determined to win and will go to any lengths to claim Jenny as his prize.

“The Chase” is the second book in the Forbidden Game Trilogy. I absolutely loved #1 “The Hunter” and this one was even better. The story mixes romance, action and suspense and the plot is fast-paced and exciting. The character of Julian is one of the best in any book: he manages to be enigmatic, fascinating and compelling at once and he is essentially what makes this book so special. The other characters are realistic, likeable and well drawn, but it is the Shadow Man who stands out. I really enjoyed this book and would recommend it to all Forbidden Game fans and any one who liked the author’s other work. To any one who read this and enjoyed it: buy #3 The Hunter, it’s even better.

~Jenna~

4.0 out of 5 stars It was okay, March 26, 1997
By A Customer
This book was pretty good, but not as good as the rest of theseries. The Game they had to play this time wasn't as interestingas the Games from _The Hunter_ and _The Kill_, and it also wasn't as fair (it wasn't even really a Game - it was just Julian capturing them all one by one). And the way Jenny tricks Julian to get to his base is just laughable. Plus, it just seemed too implausible that Jenny would just go dancing off with a total stranger at the dance, or that the others would scramble for "logical explanations" for all the strange things happening - if *I* had been involved in the first Game, I would be quite paranoid afterward, and would call the others the instant *anything* out of the ordinary happened. It was still good - it just paled next to the other two books.

3.0 out of 5 stars I still hate Jenny, July 16, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
OK. I just started reading The Forbidden Game, and I liked it. The characters are all unique and different, which is important in a novel, and the plot is exciting and entertaining.
I just CANNOT STAND JENNY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
She is one of the most stupid, selfish, and wimpy characters I have ever read about. And for some reason that is completely out of my perspective, she loves this idiot Tom. Whose nickname for her is Thorny. What the hell.
Tome is even stupider than Jenny, and always tries to pull off this macho man rep. Hey! Tom! If you think Jenny dosen't need you anymore, then why do you keep on stalking her around like some perv, waiting to jump out at any moment to protect her from the great and evil Jullian, who ACTUALLY LOVES HER, unlike you. And I love how Jenny dosen't even question it, that her EX boyfriend is following her around, thinking he can protect her form this great magical being. Yeah, good luck with that one.
Speaking of Jullian, I was rooting him on half the time. And then Jenny won't love him back beacause she's afraid to be unfaithful to her, may I say it again, EX BOYFRIEND! And she claims he's a murderer, but SHE'S the one who killed Summer! If she hadn't just sucked it up any kissed the totally hot and charming Jullian in the first book, she could have let anyone go back home! But nooooooooooo! She didn't want Tom to feel betrayed by one little kiss after a relationship since freaking second grade!!!
So now that I got that out, the overall book was good, but the action didn't happen until halfway through the book, and it wasn't that exciting of game, and there was nothing to really learn about Jullian or the shadow world, which I DO, so hopefully you'll find out in the third book. But you have to read this book to get the last one, so just do it. It was good, and I enjoy L. J. Smith's writing.
