5.0 out of 5 stars Consistently awesome!
The best thing about this CD for me is that no one song stands out--each is fantastic and original, musically and lyrically, and represents a wide range of styles and sounds. My favorites: This Old Heart, Dream Your Way to Me, Who's Your Daddy, Slow Down Sunrise, and of course, Let's Get It On! This is one talented rising star...

2.0 out of 5 stars I agree with the editorial review.
Shannon Lawson is capable of a much better album. I saw him down in Nashville when he was with the Galoots, and it was amazing! If they were to put out a CD I'm sure it would be one of my favorites. Shannon has a voice and a talent for bluegrass music and that's what Nashville should have let him do on his first solo CD. Instead they gave it this generic, overproduced...

5.0 out of 5 stars Incredible!!!, June 21, 2002

This album is simply incredible! This new artist is simply incredible! I am utterly amazed by his fluid and soothing voice that reaches ranges like no one else. You can feel the emotion flowing straight from his vocals and right down to the bone. The best way to describe it is: WOW! And where have you guys been hiding this guy? I've now seen him perform live and you better believe that he certainly hit all of those notes that he hit in the studio, for the album.
I've read and heard all about him. It's nice to see a small town boy show the world what small town boys can do.
Besides his exceptional talent and carisma, he's an extremely good looking fella. This guy's going to go a lot of places, and will obviously go straight to the top.

5.0 out of 5 stars King of Kindness, June 11, 2002

Shannon Lawson has got to be the most coolest country singer out today. This CD is a must have for any collection. One night I was watching GAC and my friend was out of the room. When "Goodbye on a bad day" came on just his looks alone caused me to not change the channel. When he gets to the middle of the song he totally takes you by surprise and belts out his amazing voice! By this point I was looking for a pen to write who sang it and the title and i ended up writing it on my hand! I was yelling for my friend to come in and when she did she fell in love with it also. Right after that I found his web site and checked him out. I signed up for his newsletter (which I never ever do) Needless to say when i got the album i was simply knocked of my feet. Like i said before this cd is just a must have! Maybe you should listen to the fans and not amazon's review. Obviously it's not them who's buying his cd!

5.0 out of 5 stars Real Life, and different, June 8, 2002

Shannon Lawson's album is everything that you would want in a country artist he talks about real feeling in his music and stuff that happens in real life. There is so much emotion put into his songs one of my favorite songs is "This Old Heart".

This is a great CD with it's 11 tracks I think it can make it to the top 20 billboard charts it is great and it is the best debut album I have heard in a long time. He has a great powerful voice that any one would really like. The other day I told someone about Shannon having "Let's Get It On" on his album and they said "Well that is not really a country song is it?" and I replyed to that with "He can pull off any thing, he has the vocals like no other." Anyone who buys the cd will definitely love it, it's awesome, and the bonus track is GREAT!! He is DEFINTELY here to STAY!!!!
That is my opinion on him and i think he is GREAT and has a a great amazing different voice! If you have the chance to see him at a show near you go see him he is great and sounds alot better live and he will blow you away!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Underrated artist, January 18, 2004
This review is from: Chase The Sun (Audio CD)
I remember seeing the video for Shannon Lawson's first single "Goodbye On A Bad Day" on CMT back in the spring of 2002. Not only did I find him attractive, but I was blown away by the song. It's emotional and intense, and he has a really strong voice that lends well to the song, and the ones on this album. Sadly, he was dropped by MCA, but he's signed with Equity Records (Clint Black's label) so hopefully we will be hearing more from him soon. CHASE THE SUN is a nice debut album.

The title track is a nice country rocker, that would have been a great single. I like the opening uptempo song "This Old Heart", a song about heartbreak. What would a country album be without one? "Dream Your Way To Me" is a really nice midtempo song with a great chorus and great vocals from him. Other favorites include "Superstar", "Where Would I Go", "Are You Happy Now" and his inspired bluegrass cover of the classic Marvin Gaye song "Let's Get It On".

A really strong debut album. I hope he finds more success with his next release, because country radio really missed out on the talent on this album. Lets hope they wise up with his next one!

5.0 out of 5 stars A VOICE TO WATCH, March 25, 2003
This review is from: Chase The Sun (Audio CD)
Shannon Lawson has a great, powerful, rich and emotionally textured voice, and uses it aptly on his debut album. Although the arrangement for "Goodbye on a Bad Day" may seem a bit bombastic (ala Jim Steinmann or even Michael Bolton), it works with this song in establishing the complex layers of a relationship. I find it quite a stunning performance.
Lawson balances the CD with up-tempo and power ballads, and works effectively well on "Where Do I Go" and "Are You Happy Now?".
The musicianship is top notch and Lawson's cover of "Let's Get It On" is as off the wall as you'd expect in a country singer covering a soul song. But, it's a good reworking and Lawson pulls it off.
RECOMMENDED.

5.0 out of 5 stars A wonderful, fresh new voice into the mix..., June 12, 2002

After hearing, "Goodbye On A Bad Day", I knew I had to have this CD. His music is similar to the likes of Rascal Flatts, Craig Morgan, and Kevin Denney. There are songs on this album for every mood. "Slow Down Sunrise", and "Are You Happy Now", are two other noteworthy songs which I believe will be hit singles. I encourage you to check this CD out... It was well worth my money.

5.0 out of 5 stars Shannon Lawson has arrived, June 7, 2002
This review is from: Chase The Sun (Audio CD)
After the long awaited release of "Chase the Sun", it is uncontested that Shannon is one of the best newcomers to hit the seen. Not only does he have a widespread background in music, with an arsenal of influences and plain old ROOTS!!!, it is magnetic talent with a little something for a widespread genre of appreciative listeners. Opening the CD with "This Old Heart", is an excellent example of his first fruits, vocally. Shannon's ability is as the likes of Collin Raye. The production on the entire disk is superb. His debut single, "Goodbye on a bad day", is exquisite. And for those longing for a faster pace, check out "Who's your Daddy?", and "Bad, bad, bad,". The next do well single could very well be the title cut, or "Where would I go". Over all, this CD is a five star album. In closing you'll get it on with a fantastic rendition of Marvin Gayes', "Let's get it on", in Shannon and his bands' flavor. It's very tasty. CHASE THE SUN!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Shannon Lawson's Chase The Sun Is Amazing!!, June 7, 2002

"Goodbye On A Bad Day" was one of those rare songs that, on its first hearing, caused me to pull the car over, turn up the radio and just listen, wondering "Who is this guy with the incredible voice?" and "How did something this good get past the programmers who seem to put the most inane dreck on the air?" After calling the station to find out that his name was Shannon Lawson, I tracked down his first single and eagerly awaited his first album, becoming more intrigued the more I learned about him. His background in a range of different musical styles and performance experience make him infinitely more qualified than the average "hunk-in-a-hat". He also seemed to have a real gift as a songwriter as well as a fantastic voice.
So, I bought the album the day it came out and I was not at all disappointed!! The other original songs on the album shine and his ability to meld blues, country and rock makes the CD one that deserves repeated listenings. Then, just as the CD comes to a close, he does a cover of Marvin Gaye's "Let's Get It On" that just blew me away! Brilliant and courageous!
