5.0 out of 5 stars I loved it
I've read all of Miasha's book, and was surprised at the reviews that were typed here. I read the book in a matter of 2 hours (as I do all of her books), and i looooooved it! It captured me from the 1st paragraph, I guess because I've been there and done that. Anyway, it was a winner for me. It left me wondering what was going to happen in the end. I must admit, I have a...

I am a very big fan of Miasha and I have enjoyed ALL of her books so far.But Chaser just did not do it for me,there was no wow factor and the whole story seemed rushed to me.I was quite dissapointed with this story because I know Miasha could have done better..on another note,At least I learned a new term for "tow truck driver"

This book was okay. I read better and I read worse. Miasha is one of my favorite authors and would like to see this book as a sequel. Keep up the good work Miasha!

5.0 out of 5 stars I loved it, August 31, 2010
This review is from: Chaser: A Novel (Paperback)
I've read all of Miasha's book, and was surprised at the reviews that were typed here. I read the book in a matter of 2 hours (as I do all of her books), and i looooooved it! It captured me from the 1st paragraph, I guess because I've been there and done that. Anyway, it was a winner for me. It left me wondering what was going to happen in the end. I must admit, I have a problem comparing Miasha to Zane, when they are nothing alike. Zane is Erotica and Miasha is fiction. Although her book did not include alot of sex, you pretty much got the gist of it. Leah reminds me of my me and Kenny of my ex, I felt like I was her, and got out of the situation the best way I knew how...like she did....a TOTAL winner for me!

I read all the bad reviews on this book so i was not looking forward to getting this book. I only ordered it because I have every other book Miasha has written. I LIKED THIS BOOK! It was a real page turner for me. I wish it was not so short (like all Miasha's books) but I am going against the grain and I would recommend this book. It was really good :)

1.0 out of 5 stars What a disappointment!, January 13, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Chaser: A Novel (Paperback)

As a big fan of Miasha, I was incredibly disappointed by this book. Miasha was not up to her usual standards in "Chaser". The story centers around Leah, a young woman who is stuck in a dead end relationship with her criminal minded boyfriend, Kenny. Leah is financially dependent on Kenny and is pulled into Kenny's mad schemes, which leads to her getting arrested along with Kenny and his crew. When Leah is made the fall guy for the crime, Leah decides to strike a deal with the police and get incriminating information on Kenny. Enter Nasir, a former friend of Kenny, who owes a debt to Kenny - one that Kenny won't let him forget. Leah and Nasir are attracted to each other and begin an affair. Criminal minded Kenny is all about money and protecting his back. What happens when Kenny discovers that Leah is betraying him to the police? Although this story was an interesting premise, Miasha just didn't deliver the goods. Leah wasn't an interesting character, nor were the other players in the drama, Kenny or Nasir. The story dragged big time and really was not compelling reading. Very disappointing!!1

4.0 out of 5 stars Another winner for Miasha, October 19, 2009
This review is from: Chaser: A Novel (Paperback)
Leah is young, beautiful and ambitious. Her only problem is that she's in love with the wrong man. Leah finds herself at her breaking point when her boyfriend Kenny sets her up to take the fall for one of his schemes. Caught in an unfortunate situation, she ends up striking a deal with the police. But will Leah be able to gather information on Kenny without blowing her cover? Nasir is Kenny's friend and an unwilling participant in his schemes. Nasir just tries to live the straight and narrow life by working with his father at a body shop. But Kenny makes Nasir's life difficult by never letting him forget about a debt that he owes him. Nasir's life gets more complicated when he sets his sights on Leah. Money rules Kenny's world and he always wants more of it. He will stop at nothing to get what he wants and will step on anybody's toes to get to the top. Kenny's growing suspicions about his girlfriend Leah may throw him off his game.

Miasha has once again produced another winner with Chaser. Miasha brought a story with a unique twist on being an informant for the police. From the very first page, you will feel for Leah's plight. You will feel the wide range of emotions that she goes through as this story progresses. You will also see how Nasir tries to respect Leah and Kenny's relationship while he struggles with his own feelings about Leah. Chaser is a quick page-turner that will surely satisfy readers.

3.0 out of 5 stars Is Rushing Head-On Into Danger Worth the Catch?, October 12, 2009

The RAWSISTAZ Reviewers (RAWSISTAZ.com and BlackBookReviews.net) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Chaser: A Novel (Paperback)
Leah falls for yet another one of her man's schemes and ends up in jail. When Kenny asks her to perform a stunt that includes insurance fraud, Leah, who figures she doesn't have much choice, gives in. Not only does she end up spending hours in jail, Kenny places the blame on her and lets her take the charge so he can roam the streets again. Leah has been financially dependent on Kenny for quite some time now. Despite the fact she knows living her life with a man who will lie, cheat, and kill to protect his illegitimite empire will catch up with her one day, she enjoys the benefits, which includes a multi-million dollar home and an unlimited money supply. In a surprising twist of fate, Leah receives an offer she does not resist. For a chance at having all charges dropped against her, she must agree to help the police bring Kenny down.

Unaware of the pact Leah has made with the police, Kenny comes up with yet another scheme. He now wants Leah to help him "legalize" his money by working at an auto body shop. He plans to convince this business to put him on their payroll and write checks to him using his money. Her plan to keep Kenny in the dark so he doesn't suspect she is in cohorts with the police, leads her to give in once again. The owner of the shop is Nasir's dad. Kenny used to work with Nasir as a chaser, but even after Kenny quit that job long ago, he was always calling on Nasir to do favors for him. Nasir has always found Leah to be attractive, but once she starts employment at his shop, he may soon find the attraction is too strong to resist.

Is it more dangerous being an informant to the police to bring down a man who has taken care of you financially for several years or cheating on that man with one of his friends? The plot is fast-paced and the ending is scandalous. Even though the story was well written and the climax well-developed, I felt a little confused in the beginning at Miasha's choice to use the first person point of view for each of the three main character's prospective. Nonetheless, if you are looking for a quick, thrilling urban read, Miasha is that author.

3.0 out of 5 stars Set Up For a Fall, October 10, 2009
This review is from: Chaser: A Novel (Paperback)
Leah knows she is in love with the wrong man. When Kenny swept her off her feet and moved her out of the projects, she felt like a princess. Leah's princess dreams began crumble when Kenny's latest get rich scheme has her facing prison time. The only way to avoid prison time is to become an informant against the man she though would make her dreams come true. Does she have what it takes to go against Kenny and save herself. Hard working Nasir is doing his best to distance himself from Kenny but Kenny has information that keeps Nasir from completing breaking all ties. Breaking free of Kenny's guilt trips may prove to be more than what Nasir bargained for.

Told from the point of view of Leah and Nasir, Chaser by Miasha tells the story of two people trying to escape the grasp of Kenny and his schemes. Leah and Nasir's first person point of view shows the levels of emotions tied to the tug of war between right and loyalty that is shaping their life. Abuse, cheating, killing and snitching are all secondary characters in this urban tale. Leah and Nasir learn that fast money is not always a good thing. The turmoil each character faces in their quest to rid their lives of Kenny keeps you guessing until the final chapter.

Set in Philadelphia, each scene is descriptive and well written. The underlying story of Chaser (accident chasers) offers a look at the cycle of auto body shop, doctors and lawyers in everyday traffic accidents. Urban Lit readers will enjoy this tale of cat and mouse.

4.0 out of 5 stars What Is A Chaser?!, September 12, 2009
This review is from: Chaser: A Novel (Paperback)
Miasha did a fantastic job on a new and innovative topic. I had no clue what a "Chaser" was until I read her latest novel. It was refreshing to read an Urban Lit book with a new twist. So for that I certainly commend Miasha.

Her characters were well developed and interesting something that most authors don't take the time to do as of late.

Within the story based in Philadelphia the main character, Leah, is caught in the typical bad relationship with a dope boy, Kenny. Kenny forces Leah to get involved with several scams. And, let's just say when Leah becomes caught up Kenny is off doing his thang. Leah is then forced to look out for self and agrees to become an informant. While staying true to herself and setting Kenny up for the big pay back she falls in love with her prince charming, Nasir. Nasir is everything that Kenny is not. (Nasir was truly my favorite character in this novel) Leah finds herself living a double life until the tables are turned forever.

Definitely an entertaining page turner. My biggest issues with the book is I wish the book was a tad bit longer. And, a few of the scenes could have been flushed out. But, overall it was a great read as all her books are.
