A clear and concise exploration of Chasidism., June 18, 1997
By A Customer
This review is from: Chasidism: Its Development, Theology, and Practice (Hardcover)
An important new volume. One of the pillars of Chasidic thought is the idea that people can comprehend God better through their actions, specifically by performing mitzvos (sacred deeds) than by mediation. This concept is the basis for the beliefs and observances of Chasidism, founded by the Ba'al Shem Tov in the 18th century, and continued by his disciples up to the modern era. Rabbi Noson Gurary discusses Chasidism in a straightforward and authentic manner, without dilution of the ideas. The book explains the purpose and process of creation, the decesnt of the soul into the human body, and the role of the Torah and mitzvos. A must read for all those looking to know the roots of this profound belief system

This review is from: Chasidism: Its Development, Theology, and Practice (Hardcover)
This book is not really a light read or a brief overview of Chasidism. But it is very well written and complete, and I learned a lot.
