5.0 out of 5 stars Even better than Take the Reins!!
I read Chasing Blue in a couple of hours. I couldn't stop reading! There is MAJOR drama from the first page and the entire pace of the book is super fast. There's a great balance of horse scenes and boy/girl stuff. I loved the addition of new characters and just loved this book so much.

The ending...OMG. I need Behind the Bit right now, LOL. At least there...

3.0 out of 5 stars Better Than Take The Reins
I was really worried after reading Take The Reins that this book was going to be just as bad or worse. But, thank God, it wasn`t. Jessica Burkhart`s horse related mistakes are much fewer this time around, but her writing style still rubs me the wrong way. For one, she sounds more like she`s typing up an e-mail than a book, and the storyline is inconsistant and jumps from...

Definitely better than The Saddle Club. And I've read all of those.

5.0 out of 5 stars Chasing Blue - A Whitebrook Farm Blog Review, March 22, 2009

This review is from: Chasing Blue (Canterwood Crest #2) (Paperback)
I have really high hopes for this series, even more so now that I've read the second installment, because it has definitely delivered. Heather and Sasha are teammates at Canterwood Crest, but they're also social rivals. Mainly, they just don't get along. So when it's announced that Canterwood is going to compete in this regional show, and Heather and Sasha are forced to partner up for practice, they're forced to face honesty. This shouldn't be that big of a deal, but we're talking about a horse book here. Honesty in most horse books is horrible. So when the girls in the advanced team at Canterwood Crest are told to grade each other on a jumping exercise, and Heather is the one person who is brutally honest, and Sasha is forced to agree with her even about her own (not a perfect ten, I'll say that right now) riding...I didn't know what to do except blink at the page.

This portion of the book I loved, to be honest. Now let's talk about the boys. A big secondary plotline of this book is a Valentine's Day dance that inevitably becomes the scene for the book's climax. Sasha is still in pre-teen love with Jacob, but Jacob keeps hanging out with Heather for seemingly no reason, rocking Sasha's tween love life to the core. Then there's this other guy, Eric, who likes Sasha and is creating tension between Sasha and her friend, Callie, who also likes Eric. It is definitely a seventh grade soap opera. Granted, it's been a long time since I was twelve, so I can't begin to judge what is going on here, but know that things don't exactly come out in Sasha's favor by the end of the book.

Chasing Blue ends by giving Sasha some things to fix in the next book. Relationships will be tested, friendships have to be mended, and basically I always respect any middle grade horse book that doesn't try to tack on a happy ending in the last chapter of an angst-filled drama fest. Chasing Blue refreshes the old nice girl vs. mean girl routine and gives you more to look forward to in the series. Wonderful horse book -- definitely not to be missed by any equine obsessed girl.

5.0 out of 5 stars Captivating read, June 21, 2011
This review is from: Chasing Blue (Canterwood Crest #2) (Paperback)
With a house full of horse crazy girls on a daily basis this book was a major hit. Horses great story and real life. My girls loved it and the rest of the series right along with it. If you have a horse crazy girl but are leery of the material they are getting this book is the one for you. while there is some romance it is very pg but not so dull they loose interest.

5.0 out of 5 stars Courtesy of Teens Read Too, June 13, 2010
This review is from: Chasing Blue (Canterwood Crest #2) (Paperback)
Sasha's finally fitting in at Canterwood Crest. She wouldn't want to be anywhere else, especially since things are starting to heat up between her and Jacob. But could there be trouble in paradise?

Heather's noticed Sasha's crush and she's doing everything possible to put doubts in Sasha's head. Sasha's trying to juggle her feelings for Jacob on top of dealing with Heather, a major horse competition, school work, and helping Paige reach her dream of becoming a TV chef.

There's only so much a girl can do. Plus, the riding team starts working out in pairs; Sasha and Heather are assigned as one team. Could things get any worse? Will Sasha be focused enough on her riding skills to seriously compete in this competition, or will her A-game be thrown off by all the personal drama?

CHASING BLUE continues Sasha's tale, adding boys to the mix of horses, roommates, serious work, and friendship drama. You can't help but love and root for Sasha Silver.

5.0 out of 5 stars Just as Good, February 10, 2010
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Chasing Blue (Canterwood Crest #2) (Paperback)
She (Burkhart) carries the story on amazingly! It was so exciting, the cliff-hanging ending of take the reins, and it was torture for me to wait for this, but it was worth it! Sasha is adjusted to her new life, and it is apparent she has made friends and is comfortable. She is an exemplary role model to teen girls. Who wouldn't like her? I feel like I know her from the books, as if she is my best friend.

5.0 out of 5 stars super, May 14, 2009
This review is from: Chasing Blue (Canterwood Crest #2) (Paperback)
My daughter has never really found books that interesting her but this series has done it for her. She couldn't wait for me to get the next book in the series. She does ride and she is almost a teenager so I guess she is able to relate to the situations that occur. I wish we could get them sooner than when they are released!
