Sister Hazel "All For You" Live

It should come as no surprise that one of rock's most democratic bands would
come up with a most democratic album. For Release (Aug. 18, 2009, Rock Ridge
Music), their seventh disc of original material, Sister Hazel
(vocalist/guitarist Ken Block, guitarist/vocalist Drew Copeland, lead
guitarist Ryan Newell, bassist Jett Beres and drummer Mark Trojanowski)

Editorial Reviews

Product Description

The band opted to move from the major label mainstream back to their grass-roots fan base with this indie release. "Chasing Daylight" shows Sister Hazel's growth with everything from rock mantras to moving ballads. Most notable is the lead single, "Your Mistake", with its poignant lyrics, elaborate instrumentation, and memorable melody.

Gainesville, Florida's Sister Hazel would have you believe that resuming indie status has given the band renewed vitality, and judging by the sheer force of Chasing Daylight, you'd probably be inclined to agree. Opening with a trio of songs that are shamelessly buoyant, the band makes clear its determination to craft anthems, and they're not about to let lost love stand in the way of a hooky chorus, as songs like opening track "Your Mistake" make clear. The relatively somber ballad "Best I'll Ever Be" divides the disc between its utterly accessible first half and slightly more adventurous last half, but generally speaking, the quintet stays on point, delivering smooth, sing-songy country-dusted roots-rock full of wide-open spaces and palpable longing. Skynyrd is subtly noted in the dirty guitar graffitied across the opening of "Swan Dive," though their Florida brethren never had the vocal harmonies mustered by Sister Hazel at full tilt. And while a full string section adds shadow and nuance to these compositions, Chasing Daylight is straight-up, radio-friendly, and as comfortable as worn denim. --Kim Hughes

5.0 out of 5 stars An excellent CD by an excellent band December 8, 2003
Format:Audio CD
Sister Hazel is a band whose music is a unique mix of rock, pop, country, and bluegrass that is simply irresistable. The stands out due to its four-yes four- guitarists and the unique metallic voice of lead singer Ken Block.
Chasing Daylight continues the band's streak of excellent albums. Beginning with the wonderful "Your Mistake" and ending with the equally great "Can't Believe," this is a CD without a weak point. Other highlights include "Come Around" and "Best I'll Ever Be."
Like many bands, Sister Hazel is not for everyone. The group prefers arena rock style jams to slower more understated numbers, which they can also do.
Don't let the review fool you, this is not a band that has lost its "vitality."

5.0 out of 5 stars Chasing Daylight (CD) Customer Delight April 11, 2003
Format:Audio CD
Tune into your local radio station and catch the new Sister Hazel hit from Chasing Daylight called "Your Mistake" "...I wanna be good I wanna be great, I wanna be everything except for your mistake..." It's powerful yet gentle with overflowing passion. Wait, you have not hear anything yet!!! "Life Got In The Way" will be sure to find it's way to the radio waves soon, as well.
Most cd's these days are made with a lot of fluff and little good music. Well that is just not the case here! As with their big hits "All For You" and "Change Your Mind" from previous cd's, CHASING DAYLIGHT is one of those addictive cd's that you won't be able to get enough of. From beginning to end; you will find beautiful harmonies (Can't Believe), jaw-dropping guitar licks (Swan Dive), infectious drumming (Killing Me Too), fun pick-me-up tunes (Everybody), passion (One Love and Life Got In The Way), tear-jerkers (Best I'll Ever Be) just to name a few.
One of my favorite things about Chasing Daylight is that you will love it no matter if your age is 7 or 70 or any age in between.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sister Hazel can still do it, and do it well February 9, 2003
Format:Audio CD
I have no idea why, but I've always liked the music that Sister Hazel made but I never bought an album. But going through a phase of bands like Dishwalla I decided to check out their new one, and I am so glad that I did. This CD is one to remember for sure. I have seen a decline in "happy" music, and this CD attempts to bring happy music back to its proper place among the angry amatuers. Chasing Daylight is full of extremely upbeat and lyrically potent songs, such as the single "Your Mistake" which proudly proclaims "I wanna be good, I wanna be great, I wanna be everything except for your mistake." But this disc isn't simply radio friendly pop rock. Songs like "Killing Me Too" or "Best I'll Ever Be" are brutally beautiful slower songs, but never lose the Sister Hazel twang. Basically, if you are a fan of Sister Hazel in any way at all you shouldn't find nothing to dislike about this album. All the songs are very high quality, well written, catchy, and well produced. Don't pass this one up, it is a great CD.

5.0 out of 5 stars Just As Good, if not BETTER than Fortress February 5, 2003
By Joe
Format:Audio CD
I've had Chasing Daylight since around Christmas when I ordered the limited edition off Sister Hazel's website. Their earlier CD "Fortress" was the CD that really got me into their music, and "Chasing Daylight" was that CD that made me realize that Sister Hazel is one of the most talented and underrated bands that are out today. And this is coming from someone who's CD collection consists of mostly alternative rock and punk. This CD is great in every aspect. It has great writing, great music, and everything else you would expect from a Sister Hazel CD. It's one of those CD's where you can listen to every song on the CD without skipping a single track. They range from the very emotional sad song "Best I'll Ever Be" to the more upbeat tempo song "Come Around." IT's hard to pick a favorite among all the great tracks on the CD, but I reall enjoy "Life Got in The Way," "Sword and Shield" and "Everybody." This is must have CD for Sister Hazel fan, and for those of you are not very familar with Sister Hazel, give it a try, you might be suprised.

5.0 out of 5 stars SH Rocks!!! September 17, 2005
Format:Audio CD
Okay, somebody should have made these guys more famous! Not that it's stopping them from being on of the best rock bands ever, or hometown heroes for all of us down here in Gainesville...

This album is great because it's not trying to break into pop culture. It's semi-pop, quasi-country southern rock that represents the band's roots to a "t": a southern college town. That's probably why G'ville is only place in the world where chain bookstores and music outlets sell out of their albums on a daily basis. And no one has had the full experience of SH until they've been to a G'ville show (seriously, when the whole crowd breaks into the chorus of "All For You", or more recently when the guys did "A little like Heaven" from Drew Copeland's solo debut, and we all went insane, the (literally!) five minute standing ovations... you just have to be there!)

I highly recommend to anyone, though if you haven't been initiated yet, make sure you go back to the older albums too!

5.0 out of 5 stars Back and better than ever! February 4, 2003
Format:Audio CD
Sister Hazel's new CD is so great. It's the best they've sounded in a long time! The album starts off strong with "Your Mistake" which I can't stop playing and can't get out of my head (which is a good thing!). But all of the songs are good - if you like Sister Hazel you'll love this CD. If you don't think you like Sister Hazel but you like Matchbox 20, John Mayer, Blues Traveler, Edwin McCain, and just about any other male lead group that can actually sing and play - you'll like this CD. Great up tempo songs, beautiful ballads -this CD has it all!!
