5.0 out of 5 stars The mind of a poet
How nice it is to not only read her book of the same title but to hear this music. For anyone who is interested in how the mind of a poet/songwriter works then get the book and the cd. It's so rare nowadays to have poets who are the true force behind their own singing voices and songs but with Jewel you get the real deal, the truth matches her name. I like how she...

1.0 out of 5 stars THIS IS NOT MUSIC
Another reviewer wrote "Jewel sings 62 songs in this album, and all of the tracks are excellent."

Uh, no. There are no songs on this "spoken-word audio on CD." It's just Jewel talking about her life. I didn't realize that before I ordered it but now it's being sent back. Sorry, Jewel is a great singer (which is why I bought what I thought was one...

Uh, no. There are no songs on this "spoken-word audio on CD." It's just Jewel talking about her life. I didn't realize that before I ordered it but now it's being sent back. Sorry, Jewel is a great singer (which is why I bought what I thought was one of her music albums), but I don't really care to hear her talk about the farm she grew up on.

It's so rare nowadays to have poets who are the true force behind their own singing voices and songs but with Jewel you get the real deal, the truth matches her name. I like how she describes the day she decided she needed to move out of the main house into her own cabin (which is common in Alaska to have a cabin), how nice it was for her to be in her own space with her own thoughts, this is when her writing really took off. I like the story of the "sponge bath" too! In Alaska the only bath you get is when the neighbor fires up the hot tub! I love how in touch she is with nature and horses and the land, a true poet. Long live Jewel and her art.

5.0 out of 5 stars THE VOICE OF AN ANGEL!!, March 25, 2001
By
This review is from: Chasing Down the Dawn (Audio CD)
I fell in love with Jewel's voice since the first day that I heard her sing live in concert. I think that Jewel's songs are very good because she expresses her feelings through them. Everything on this track is just amazing. If you have this album,or thinking of getting it, then you will notice that she sings a lot about her mom and dad, she really is a family person. She also sings some songs in German(not included in this album). If you loved Jewel's previous albums, then you will just love this one more. Jewel sings 62 songs in this album, and all of the tracks are excellent. You better get this amazing album, and you will never regret it, believe me.

4.0 out of 5 stars A great insight into Jewel's life and career, January 21, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Chasing Down the Dawn (Audio CD)
"Chasing Down the Dawn by Jewel was created primarily on the road during the Spirit World Tour."
The reason I gave it four stars instead of five is because you must have a genuine interest in her life and her thoughts in her early career. If you do, then as you listen to it , you get an insight into her life and for a Jewel fan that is really a five star rating . It is a double audio CD in a plastic case and that is inside an outer carton with some nice color pics of her on it and a general description of the CD's. The cover insert in the case folds out to a complete list of the contents of both CD's .
As I said , for a Jewel fan it is a great addition to your collection . I am glad I bought the set .
It is Jewel speaking about her life and career on both CD's . "SPOKEN-WORD AUDIO ON CD"

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Author, Excellent Book-on-CD, May 2, 2010

Another creative offering from a uniquely talented author, singer and storyteller. She shares her life with her fans in a way that makes you feel like you've known her for years, and makes you comfortable with the idea that everyone's childhood is different, and it doesn't have to define who you are. Hearing her read through the passages in the book is both soothing and exciting, as she tells it like nobody else could. A great read, and a wonderful listen!

5.0 out of 5 stars Jewel, we love you!!!!!, February 1, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Chasing Down the Dawn (Audio CD)
Simply the best artist this decade. A must buy. She reminds me of what Janice Joplin, BB King, Jimmy Hendricks and the rest tried to say to us in the 60's and 70's. Will we listen now and give her the honor she deserves?

Whats with the cliches? Please people, get off your knees and try and write something original if you're gonna write anything at all. Follow Jewel's example in that respect, if you consider yourself a fan.

4.0 out of 5 stars a peek into the fire that made jewel, a jewel, December 26, 2000

This review is from: Chasing Down the Dawn (Audio CD)
Her first attempt at releasing an audio book of poetry is very novel, not a lot of artists do it. Its voice was personal yet seem to be detached from what she really was, the second book is more of a microscope's view into what makes her tick.

I guess it is the stories where she tells of cows being slaughtered or of the finer points of eating eskimo ice cream, maybe its her seemingly innocent and vulnerable yet determined approach to life and success. I don't know. All I know is there is some sort of sincerity that lies under her skin and in the undercurrents of her voice. I always enjoyed listening to her.

This was a woman has been through the test of fire and has emerged shining. And her name is Jewel, so fitting.

This is a great addition for Fans and the like; preferrably the ones familiar with her work. I would have to definitely say that this is not for the uninitiated.
