4.0 out of 5 stars Great golf reading
Tired of golf instruction books and even more tired of those "golf Zen" books, this was a refreshing book about a sport I really love. If you've ever thought "what if" about playing pro golf, this is great reading.

2.0 out of 5 stars Good ending doesn't make up for the rest of the book
This book started out slowly, got slower & slower, and then finally picked up its pace at the end. You know it's not the greatest book in the world when a golf enthusiast such as I can manage to read a chapter & then set it aside for a week at a time. It does have some charming character development, however, and I thought the stories at the end of the book...

1.0 out of 5 stars content not substantial, February 28, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Chasing the Dream (Paperback)
With good intentions, the author sets out to play the best golf he can. But the storyline is too much about him -- his pain, mishits, and trials and tribulations. I was hoping for more insight into the process of becoming a pro golfer. Instead, we focus on his pain and drinking to relieve it. The fact there are many misspellings in the book doesn't add to your reading enjoyment. All in all, not what I hoped.

This book is unique in someone who thought he might possibly make the tour gives it quite a run. I really enjoyed reading this. Except for some mild vulgarity, this was a great read. Worth the time and money.

4.0 out of 5 stars Eye opening, June 14, 2000
This review is from: Chasing the Dream (Paperback)
I was given this book as a present from my mother whose idea of golf is Putt-Putt so I was not expecting too much from it. Boy was I wrong. Hurt's ability to tell a good story was obvious from page one and he truly made you feel like you were along for the ride as well, all the way to the tour. Although overly detailed in parts, he more than made up for it with a wealth of information about golf as a whole. He talks of meeting the Harmon brothers and the tips he learned from them. He takes you to a psychologist to learn the head game of golf. He shows you all the other tour options available to a golfer... while trying to gain your card. It was great read, one I could not put down in the four days or so it took to read.

4.0 out of 5 stars Engaging account of life in golf's "minor leagues", August 23, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Chasing the Dream (Paperback)
This is an entertaining, well-written account of what life is like in golf's "minor-league" tours. For anyone who's wondered what it's like and what it takes to "chase the dream", Mr. Hurt delivers an insightful look at not only the events and on-course challenges, but more interestingly, the "in-his-head" challenges he faces.

5.0 out of 5 stars A book for dreamers and lovers of the game of golf., August 23, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Chasing the Dream (Paperback)
For those of us who excel at the game, but for reasons of work, family or expense have never been able to chase the dream, this is a must read. The author goes into detail of tournament rounds with the same thoughts as the rest of us. You will not be disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Harry Hurt lives our dreams in this book., July 27, 1998
By A Customer
This is one of the top three books I've read about golf. A must for all hackers like me who dream and wonder what it would be like scrapping out on the mini-tours, fighting the courses as a professional. Harry is a great writer who recants his tales in wonderfully vivid and humourous style.

4.0 out of 5 stars You got my attention., July 20, 1998
By A Customer
As a wannabe pro golfer, I really enjoyed the trials and tribulations that Harry shares in this book. I could not put the book down. The text flows well, and easily keeps your attention. Just the information it contains on the different tour playing requirements is worth the purchase. Every golfer who has dreamed of playing on any golf tour should read this book.

1.0 out of 5 stars Golfer Attempting a PGA run THIS BOOK IS TERRIBLE, January 13, 2000

This review is from: Chasing the Dream (Paperback)
The book was well written. Mr. Hunt is a superb writer, but his book has a terrible ending. The book should never have been written. He leads the reader to believe in him and give the reader all the emotions that he will make it to the PGA. But in the end, he fails to make it and never sticks it out, he quits, and thats how it ends, as if he had to leave in a hurry. I hate the book, would almost ask for a refund! Thank you for reading my honest review.
