Book Description

May 29, 2007
Modern-day Iraq: During a raging sandstorm in a war zone, army chaplain Jaime Richards is shocked to be reunited with her old friend Adara Dunbar--and devastated when, in the midst of an ambush, a black-robed man murders Adara in cold blood. But not before she delivers a final message to Jaime--one important enough to die for...and obviously to kill for. Why Adara? And how did her assassin know Jaime's name?

Jaime's quest for answers will lead her into danger beyond anything she's experienced on the battlefield. At an ancient site, she meets a stranger who reveals astounding truths about Adara's mission--and the war itself--that are impossible to ignore. For the roots of this war reach back to a time and place fixed in the history of civilization. Many have searched for the Garden of Eden before, because to find it is to unlock a power beyond human comprehension. Now, for Jaime, the chase is on--and the fate of the world hangs in the balance...

Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly

Chaplain (Maj.) Jaime Richards makes a promising debut as a savvy-but-nurturing minister to American troops during the early days of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Though she's an unconventional thriller protagonist, Richards leaves no doubt she's up to the task when, right out of the chute, she's the target of a kidnapping attempt—but not before she's reunited with a fatally injured college chum, Adara Dunbar. In her dying moments, Adara gives Jaime a silver pendant and a cryptic message, pleading with the chaplain to promise she'll complete Adara's mission. With Adara dead, though, her mission is a mystery, one that unfolds, labyrinthlike, over the course of the novel. Though hungry and sleep deprived, Jaime deciphers Adara's message, which leads her to the ancient city of Ur and a man who identifies himself as Adara's brother. His mission is to locate the biblical Garden of Eden—before others find it first—and Jaime is quickly drawn into the scramble. Following a popular formula, in which forces of good and evil race to locate religious artifacts, this one benefits from its wartime setting, which proves both prescient and dynamic. Unfortunately, Linnea fails to carry through the rich promise of her early chapters, delivering implausible plot devices and a disappointing ending. (June)

"Reads like the best of Robert Ludlum, with the realistic military flavor of W.E.B. Griffin, and the adventure of Clive Cussler--this book is impossible to put down."
--Colonel Ian "Red" Natkin, Ret., US Army

"An absolute page-turner. This book has 'you are there' insider details that make you question everything you read in today's headlines. A thrill-a-minute read!"--Christina Dodd, New York Times bestselling author

"Chasing Eden is an intelligent, exciting novel with a tremendously strong feeling of authenticity. The edgy, scary atmosphere comes over vividly--definitely a sweaty palms read. It is totally original and the ending completely unexpected. I loved it."--Bill Napier

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Adventure!!, June 14, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Wow!! What an edge-of -your-seat adventure. I love army Chaplin (Major) Jamie Richards! Starting with the robbery of artifacts from the National Museum of Iraq and taking the reader along for a wild ride through the ancient ruins of the cities of Ur and Babylon this book never slows down. I couldn't put it down, even getting up in the middle of the night to finish it! At times it made me laugh, cry, gave me goosebumps and just wouldn't let me go. I highly recommend CHASING EDEN and I can't wait to read the next book in the series, BEYOND EDEN!Beyond Eden (Eden Thrillers)Treasure of Eden (Eden Trilogy 3)

This review is from: Chasing Eden (Eden Trilogy 1) (Paperback)
It can be dangerous to open the cover of a good book. S.L. Linnea and BK Sherer prove this with Chasing Eden, the can't-put-down thriller of the summer. I had no intention of reading Chasing Eden--didn't want to hear anything else about Iraq and I'm a romantic thriller fan--but then I made the mistake of opening the cover and reading the first few lines. No wonder the word "chasing" is in the title; the plot takes off right from the beginning. I admit that I did close the book a few times, but only when I had to work, shop, etc. The rest of the time I was racing along with Jaime--a rare religious character because she didnt preach at me or make me feel as if Christianity was something that clobbered folks into submission--and I found myself moving along through unfamiliar terrain and across perilous twists and plot turns. When I finished the last pages (in bed at 2 A.M, with a booklight shining into the dark) I hated to see Jaime go. I know haven't seen the end of her though, and not just because we can expect a sequel. I was clearly so enthusiastic (and newly curious about Iraq and Eden) that my husband, a professor, has also decided to submit to Jaime's charms. This is the first time in a long time that we have enjoyed the same book--and this is a man who usually reads physics for fun!
