5.0 out of 5 stars Thirty-something rebelliousness
Chasing Horses by Christy Tillery French is a banquet of thirty-something rebelliousness. Set before the reader is a big plate of everything needed to satisfy any adult reader's appetite. 1.0 out of 5 stars Not What I Expected From Reader Reviews!!!
I, too, purchased this book based on how many 5-star reviews it has received. I'm a little more than half-way finished, but probably will not get to the end because it's so bad. What happened here, folks?! The editing is bad. There are numerous mistakes which make me believe an earlier draft was written in the first person. The lead charachter, Ricki, is a dope...

Chasing Horses by Christy Tillery French is a banquet of thirty-something rebelliousness. Set before the reader is a big plate of everything needed to satisfy any adult reader's appetite. There are situations so humorous, you'll want to reread them 'cause you can't believe what you just read; and you'll see a side of women "sowing their wild oats" that makes the HBO series "Sex and the City" group look like a bunch of Campfire Girls.
French has written a great book about late thirty issues that occur in many of our lives and does it with a set of as she refers to them "quirky" characters and circumstances.
Ironically, the truth underlying the main character's rebelliousness is summed up in the following lines from the book, "I'm so tired of chasing horses,"......"You know, if you want to catch a horse, the last thing in the world you do is chase him, right?"
Readers should chase down a copy of this book. It is a great read!

5.0 out of 5 stars An entertaining joy to read...one I found quite appealing!, March 23, 2002
This review is from: Chasing Horses (Paperback)
"Chasing Horses" by Christy Tillery French is an entertaining story that I found quite appealing.

The characters are fun with the perfect blend of spunk and spice. The dialogue mischievous and fresh...a mix that I found quite unique - separating this writer's style from others.

I finished reading this novel thinking to myself "You Go Girl" refering, of course, to the lead character in the story, Ricki England - a recently divorced woman attempting to move on in life after a divorce from the man she is still in love with.

I don't want to spoil the story for anyone so I'll stop here. I'd just like to add, "Chasing Horses" (though I don't particicularly like the name chosen for this story) is a wonderful story that I believe will and should attract a diversfied reading sudience.

The story is well-written, creative, and a pleasure to read. This author has done an exceptional job on her first novel. Congratulations Ms. French on a job well done!

5.0 out of 5 stars This Book Offers The Reader Everything You Could Ask For, May 29, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Chasing Horses (Paperback)
'Chasing Horses' by Christy Tillery French deals with a variety of issues as she leads the reader thru a phase in the life of Ricki England, a woman with spunk and character who, after 20 years of marriage, is trying to find herself through somewhat wacky means while dealing with issues which face women in their 30's. There is much laughter, as well as sadness, and titillation. The romance sizzles in places, is hilarious in others. Ms. French also throws in some suspense to sweeten the mix!

There are places you'll laugh so hard, you'll think you're going to "bust a gut." Then there are places that are heart-wrenching, not to mention the romance which ranges from sensual to downright naughty!

If you like the writing styles of Janet Evanovich or Sue Grafton, try French. Her humorous style of writing and her creativity with dialogue are great!

5.0 out of 5 stars I love WAR!, November 29, 2003
By
This review is from: Chasing Horses (Paperback)
I read "Wayne's Dead" by this author for my book club and enjoyed her style, so have been reading her other books. "Chasing Horses" may sound like a chick lit kind of book, but take my word, it's more than that. The situations Ms. French writes about are issues many women deal with. The fact that she does this with humor makes the read that much more enjoyable. I love the wacky characters in this book and the WAR group - what a great idea! I like an author who can write in different genres and do a good job each time.

"Chasing Horses" is so different from "Wayne's Dead" and "Chasing Demons" and is simply a fun read that will have you laughing out loud and quickly turning pages, waiting to see what mess Ricki's going to get herself into next.

I wonder if this author is going to stay with the "Chasing" theme. Highly recommended!

5.0 out of 5 stars Bawdy Hen's Lit, March 3, 2005

This review is from: Chasing Horses (Paperback)
After divorcing her husband of 20 years, Ricki England has lost sense of who she is or what she wants. She begins a women's support group called WAR and from there all hell breaks loose. This is a fun, fun book following Ricki's escapades with WAR and the vigilante group that develops therefrom, as well as Ricki's exploits in the dating world, all the while baiting her ex-husband, whom she discovers she actually still loves and lusts after.

I liked the style of this book - conversational and down-to-earth, as well as all the nutsy characters, Ricki in the forefront. The vigilante group and the out-there situations they manage to get themselves into are the best parts of the book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lucy and Ethel Southern-Style, July 28, 2003
This review is from: Chasing Horses (Paperback)
Read this author's second book "Wayne's Dead", liked it, so ordered "Chasing Horses", her first. Wow! Big difference between the two. Talk about zany characters and situations. Ricki England is a fun character and her best friend, Charlie, is something else. Kind of like a Southern Lucy and Ethel. The issues the vigilante group try to resolve are real issues but the way in which they try to resolve them are extreme, not to mention hilarious. The dialogue is great - shoot - and funny as heck! Like this author's comedic style and fast pace. Would like to see more from her.

5.0 out of 5 stars Funny, Funny Book, October 10, 2002

Cynthia (Clinton, TN) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Chasing Horses (Paperback)
I purchased this book when I attended a book signing by the author. Liked the concept, the response the book was getting, and the way the author came across, so thought what the heck, I'd give it a try since it deals with issues women face as they approach middle-age. I don't normally read romance, mystery is my thing, but I'm glad I bought this one. This book was so good, I stayed up most of the night reading it - did not want to put it down. Ms. French puts the issues right out there and lets the main character, Ricki England, deal with them in ways that are so hilarious at times, I had to put the book down, I was laughing so hard. I've decided I want to read more romantic comedies.

5.0 out of 5 stars A TRUE JOY TO READ!, November 9, 2001

I found Ms. French's book Chasing Horses a true joy to read. The characters are fun and the story more of a comedy than a mystery. Very nicely done.

"Chasing Horses by Christine French is one fun way to spend an afternoon - I could not stop laughing most of the time I was reading. I loved this little story that much. The characters are fun and light-hearted and easy to relate to, and the plot engaging and moves along quickly.

I look forward to this new writer's next book!
