Finbar's . . . Love Songs of Island, all except 1!, June 18, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Chasing Moonlight: Love Songs of Ireland (Audio CD)
I originally heard Finbar Furey's "Sweet Sixteen" and fell in love--with his voice, with the background music with Ireland. It was a Sunday and somehow this New York girl found the "Ceol na nGael" broadcast on NY's WFUV.
For one who isn't Irish, I was immediately smitten by a mysterious man singing the most beautiful rendition of When You Were Sweet Sixteen I had ever heard. I pursued with a passion finding out more about Finbar Furey (hoping I had correctly jotted this unusual name down properly) and learned that song was on his "Chasing Moonlight~Love Songs of Ireland" new release.
Do not think you must be Irish to fall in love with this artist or his music. I believe love trancends all barriers in life and music as well. Finbar's voice is soft, emotional, romantic and almost spiritual, so much so that you may find a tear forming in your eyes. The celtic musical background is heavenly.
That said, "Chasing Moonlight~Love Songs of Ireland" is as close to perfection on God's earth as one can get. However there is one flaw, number 7 on the CD, "New York Girls". How it found its way into this otherwise classic Irish work of art I will never know. Those with roots from Ireland may be more generous~but a semi-polka in the middle of romantic bliss? Come on now!
I have the CD playing now, and the Celtic sound, songs and instrumental works are caressing heart, bringing me to a place my soul wants to be. When it ends, I will replay it immediately for I want to stay there before time and obligation forces my life to its ordinary.
One thing I do know though, till then, when track 7 comes about I will awake from my daydreams, run across the room and immediately skip to track 8 on my CD player.
Still 5 stars though!

Catching Moonlight, August 8, 2008

Oooooh yea. Ballads from the heart. Some you have probably heard before, but they are played and sung here like they were fresh gems. The feeling is totally there. Hmm I can see the point from the other reviewer about 'new york girls' being a bit of a shock in a love songs album. However its a v funny and fun song. Reminds me of 'A Small drop on the side' by Davey Arthur & Co. Both are class. Albums like these should not be buried or forgotten... just the thought of it, wat a crime. Buy it enjoy it, love it. Its good...Very good.
