Book Description

"A terrific new book for fans of Young Adult fiction, mysteries, and Bigfoot." -- YA Reviews

"A stellar read for teens and adults. Every page ripples . . ." -- Kirkus Reviews

Tormented by bullies and secretly in love with a girl named Kazzy, Mo Kirkland is a teen with everything to prove.

To make matters weird, Kazzy is his best friend.

Weirder: Kazzy lives on a commune where she's called Prophecy.

Weirdest: The two friends are pretty sure they glimpsed Bigfoot while camping near Boulder Creek.

When Kazzy's family chooses a dangerous path, Mo learns that real monsters don't hide in the woods.

Can he find the courage to save the girl of his dreams?

One reviewer called Chasing Prophecy a mysterious Young Adult tale. One called it a teen suspense thriller with a few Sasquatch surprises. Another reader called it simply one of the year's best books for young adults. Whatever you call it, call it home to your kindle or bookshelf, today!

4.0 out of 5 stars Quick read with likable characters February 5, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I enjoyed this book. It was a quick, easy read with very likable characters. Mo was super sweet and the type of person I'd like to have as a friend. He was true to his friends, as were they true to him. They really had each other's backs. I also loved how supporting all the parents in this story were. Mo's momz were great. They believed and trusted him and never got angry about the trouble he'd found himself in, they just stepped up and did all they could to help him make it right again. It was nice to see a good, respectful relationship between a teen and his parents.
This story had so much going on (commune/cult, school, drugs, romance, courtroom, bigfoot, bullying, etc.) that I found myself wondering if it would all come together in the end. It did - and in a wonderful way. When I read the last page I found myself smiling with satisfaction and contentment.
Chasing Prophecy had a wonderful mix of adventure, humor, drama, and suspense. It even had some old school charm which reminded me of a good ol' summer day. I think young and old alike could enjoy this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars You can't go wrong with this book! March 16, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition
What an enjoyable book! Chasing Prophecy is one of the few books that I've read lately from a male's PoV, and it was a refreshing change of pace for me. This story surpasses the usual offerings of YA fiction. It easily carves out it's own place in the genre as a standout coming of age read.

What I enjoyed most about Chasing Prophecy was the characters. I felt like I connected to all of them so well. The way that Jim wrote them made them feel like real people that I actually cared about. As the events started to unfold in the book, I couldn't stop myself from devouring it because I wanted to make sure that Mo and Kazzy were okay. That's a rarity for me as most of you know that I read multiple books at a time. With Chasing Prophecy, I put my other reads on hold because I was so invested in the characters. Kazzy was my favorite character because of the connection I felt to her. It was very insightful to view her from Mo's point of view.

Jim definitely has a talent for writing, especially with the YA genre. His story flowed so well. Never did it feel clunky or tedious. There are several underlying themes that thread through the story in such an effortless way, and I enjoyed them immensely. The sprinkling of paranormal also adds a different edge to this book.

I feel like I cannot stop gushing about this book. Whenever I agreed to review this book, I never imagined that it would captivate my attention in the way that it has. Without hesitation, I recommend this book to all fans of the YA genre, teen or not.

**I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review. My thanks to James Moser.

Interesting story that takes some twists and turns I didn't expect. Good suspense without getting that creepy feeling. Cute romance involved. Content and topic acceptable for a wide age range.

5.0 out of 5 stars Chasing Prophecy May 2, 2014
By Hotcha
Format:Kindle Edition
Mo Kirkland tried to stay off the radar of bully Richard Handel at his school, but he was a short wimp and prayed for someone to help him evade the toliet that Richard planned to dump his head as the crowd cheered "SURF'S UP!" His best friend finally appeared to save him as well as the girl he had a crush on but dared not let her know, Cazzy or her cult name of Prophecy Bethlehem, How embarrassing when your best friend and crush had to save you!

James Moser spins an incredible story that most readers will enjoy about two teenagers getting caught up into being mules to carry meth into the United States by the cult's leaders son, Clean! Abel and Clean are determined to fight the government and prevent them from taking their land, but money has run out and they need a way to pay their high priced lawyers and keep the family together and Cazzy's mom is the unofficial bookkeeper that had to launder the money!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great easy read! April 29, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition
This book was really good! I say in the headline that it was a easy read but the plot didn't suffer any because of that. Sometimes in books I catch myself rolling my eyes because it is so predictable but this book wasn't like that at all! I really enjoyed the plot development and how all the different aspects of the book got brought together. Definitely would recommend this book to someone who wants to read a book with great depth but also a sarcastic humor throughout. Nicely done.

5.0 out of 5 stars Totally Intriguing Story. November 28, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This is a captivating tale of a teenage boy and his friends who encounter some unique challenges. Unlike many books in this genre, Mo, the main character,is not the typical tall dark and handsome high school quarterback. He is an average everyday guy who struggles with issues of self-confidence. I enjoyed his vulnerability, insight and killer sense of humor. The storyline hooked me from the very beginning. Even though this may be classified as paranormal, It was totally believable. I could not put it down and read it in one setting. But then again I may be biased because I played Scout in our high school production of "To Kill a Mockingbird", have stayed at a "hippie" commune, love hiking and camping, and am pretty sure I will eventually encounter a benevolent Bigfoot.

5.0 out of 5 stars Highly Recommend, Great Story August 2, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition
Unlike the review under mine (1 star, see Deborah Carney), I am going to review this book because I actually read it, not for malicious reasons that nobody cares about.

This story kept my attention the entire time. There were unexpected turns and the book had a unique edge to it that can definitely be enjoyed by a broad age range of readers. Mo was a great character, a loyal friend and I became attached to him for sure. I'll be looking for future books from this author. Great read.

More About the Author

James Moser lives in Seattle with his wife and nine year old son. When he's not pitching batting practice to Zach's little league team, you can find the author holed up in his writing cave, hooked up to a coffee IV, and pounding away at the keys. Moser is lately feeling inspired by "Thirteen Reasons Why" & "The Book Thief." He believes that if Jay Asher and Markus Zusak were condiments, they would be different flavors of Awesome Sauce.

Kirkus Reviews recently asked Moser why he prefers to write teen heroes. He replied, "Because they're the only ones who can save us." He is working on a three-book Young Adult series to be released in 2015.
