Good fun, great music!,
This review is from: Chasing the Sun: Greatest Songs of Summer (Audio CD)
If you're looking for a soundtrack for your summer get-together, or just want to enjoy some fun sun n' surf themed tunes, this is the collection for you! The songs are the originals and not re-recordings done by the artsts at a later date.

Pretty good, but not that perfect 7th wave,

This review is from: Chasing the Sun: Greatest Songs of Summer (Audio CD)
This set divides surf music into three categories -- "Surf Songs," which mention and/or follow the rhythm of the waves, "Shag Songs," which are what the aging East Coast navy blazer and weejuns crowd calls "beach music" and "Summer 1950-1990," which celebrates the reasonable surfing season.Actually, there's nothing here prior to 1958, which wouldn't even round down to 1950, but that's not too huge a problem. If the producers couldn't find anything surf-oriented from before '58, well, surely they diligently searched. How they decided to do the shag songs, which are more about the Seabreeze, North Carolina to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina ambiance than about surfing erodes one's faith in their judgment, however. Need another disc? How about filling it with "Beach Blanket Bingo," "Yellow Polka Dot Bikini," "K-39," "Under Water," "Moondawg," "Thunder," ... Save the shag stuff for another anthology, boys. It would sell to the weejun crowd, no problem, and leave space for a more historically complete and interpretive set in this groovy, miniature cooler-packaged, accompanied by a great surfing DVD set. I'm sorry, but I've come to expect more from Time-Life.
