This was the first of Alistair Reynolds novels I read, and still my favorite. he quickly became my favorite modern SF author, and still is. It captures the best of science fiction and noir ambience, with intriguing characters and thought-provoking science speculation. The plot will keep you guessing and the characters gradually become more complex and thoughtful. Good fun too. This book will stand alone or as part of the Revelation Space series.
