"French Puzzle Readers" is a bilingual series aimed at readers aged seven and upwards. The main narrative is bilingual throughout, and there is a French puzzle to solve on every double-page, for which all the French words and their translations are supplied. In addition, there is a comprehensive word list with simple pronunciation notes at the back of each book. "Le Chateau - The Castle" concentrates on the adventures of Sophie as she wends her way through a puzzle-packed castle on the trail of a hidden monster. Readers are encouraged to read the simple French in order to help Sophie solve the problems encountered on each page.

Excellent for elementary age children,

As an elementary french teacher I found this book wonderful It is one that my 7 year old constantly requests. It introduces basic vocabulary, but can also be used to introduce more advanced words as time goes by and the child's proficiency increases. The "mystery" makes a child think and maintains his attention, thus increasing the desire to learn the new words. Even without any knowledge of french, a parent could work through this book with a young child, although pronunciation may be a problem. This is a wonderful book that I would highly recommend to anyone wishing to stimulate a child with a new language.

Exciting way to introduce children to french.,

We are continuing to enjoy Chateau Mystere. It makes learning french fun for both my 4 and 7 year old. The book allows you to start out with simple french words and phrases to solve the mystery and then add more detail in future readings. I think the book works very well for us because I know some french. I am finding it a very creative tool that the children request over and over.
