Product Description
Chattanooga lies at the southern end of the Cumberland Plateau, surrounded by the Appalachian Mountains. First a trading post, and then an important railroad hub, Chattanooga was a successful center of manufacturing and transportation for more than a century. The decline of the railroads and the end of the Industrial Revolution spelled years of poverty and pollution for the one-time Dixie dynamo, but Chattanoogans would not give up on their city. In 1984 a coalition of private citizens, business leaders, and government officials met to consider ways to reveal the hidden beauty and potential of their beloved city. The result was Vision 2000, an ambitious project for downtown revitalization that would succeed beyond their wildest dreams. Today Chattanooga is one of the South's most vibrant metropolises, with a thriving economy, an exciting arts and cultural scene, an abundance of recreational opportunities, and a community spirit that is a model for other cities to follow. Chattanooga: The Renaissance of a City looks at the remarkable transformation that has garnered Chattanooga praise for its fine quality of life and business-friendly attitude and has earned it the nickname Scenic City of the South.
