Just like I said, an amazing blast from the past. I haven't actually read this book, but came across it while doing some unrelated searches for a few people I used to know, by way of their bands. I moved to SF from Humboldt Co. in the summer of '86. That October I turned 21, and where did I end up? Yeppers, Chatterbox...Funny. I got a free drink out of it from a girl working the ticket window/door as I recall. Along with places like Nightbreak, the Mab, the Farm, the Vis and some larger venues that popped up later there was much ridiculously rockin' and cheap fun to be had in those days. It's a world away from the SF of today. The funny thing is that I remember those days as some of the easiest I ever had and oddly, some of the most quiet I can remember. Odd because I can still hear them, quite literally, ringing in my ears. This is a fantastic idea on the author's part to document this.

..i always had a good time, while hanging out here. I never saw any of the live bands mentioned in the book, but, i can still remember the d.j.'ing: Black Flag segued into Black Sabbath, Misfits, Siouxsie Sioux..amazing! Not to mention, the old friends i would bounce into, and enjoy a brew with..

..and that KISS pinball machine! (that should say it all!)

To see this in book form, was just too tempting to pass up. Thankz Alfie for the walk/read down memory lane..

..i am curious, though, how the Chatterbox would've turned out, if they would've booked more bands from the Bay Area "thrash" scene..

..would the place still be around?
I guess that is a matter that we'll never know..

=D

How can a book that has me on the FRONT COVER go wrong. You had to be there. The last true ROCK n ROLL scene in San Francisco, or anywhere for that matter. Unpretentious and fun at the same time. Like I said, YA HAD TO BE THERE. Alfie Kulzick was the queen and KING of rock at the same time. I never had such a good time being
"S" faced in my whole life as I did then. And now it is frozen in time for all to see instead of having to hear my boring stories of yore, over and over again as I slump over in my bar stool at some new hole in the wall. All I have to do now is pull out the book and no more needs to be said. I have worn out 4 copies already from spilling beers all over them. It is a bible to me...... BARKEEP!!! one more Newcastle please.
