Book Description

April 28, 2006
Hidden beneath the vast acreage of Dodger Stadium’s parking lot is an almost forgotten Mexican/American community that once thrived in the area known as Chavez Ravine. A journey to uncover the culture and vibrancy of the displaced community is embarked upon after a late night serendipitous meeting between Dodger third baseman, Joe Shapiro, and Dodger marketing assistant, Liz Reyes. Using diary pages from a young 1950s Chavez Ravine inhabitant to guide them, Shapiro and Reyes’s fictionalized voyage of discovery will bring to life the fascinating truths of Chavez Ravine and the forces that conspired to destroy the community.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Author's Rebuttal, May 24, 2009
This review is from: Chavez Ravine Echoes (Paperback)
This is in response to Apache Wind's half-baked review. This book is completely original and is not the second part of any series. I truly do not know what Apache had in mind with his review. Chavez Ravine Echoes is a fictional take on a non-fictional governmental intervention into the lives of 2,000 Mexican-Americans who were duped into leaving their beloved Chavez Ravine homes. Indeed it has only been over the past twenty years (enter Fernando Valenzuela), that the great majority of Southern California's Mexican population have fully embraced the Dodgers and have gone on to overlook the injustice that was served out in the late 1950's. I urge those browsing this page to take a chance on a novel that is hard hitting with truths for all those looking for such.

2.0 out of 5 stars Sold A Bill Of Goods, December 21, 2008
By
Apache Wind "Bookaholic" (Somewhere Over The Rainbow) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Chavez Ravine Echoes (Paperback)
This book was intended to be an UPDATE of the original people who were featured in the first Chavez Ravine book. Instead it was more of the author and his families opinions of what they saw and heard when they went back to revisit and "update". I was very disappointed , all in all it was a decent read but I don't pay THIS kind of money on books for a "decent" read, for this price I expect to get what I paid [a GREAT read]for but instead got sold a bill of goods. Disappointed is a mild understatement.
The book is still readable, and interesting had/have you NOT read the first book.....but once you read the first you will see the HUGE difference in writing and this seemed more interested in selling A book raher then telling a story[ies].
