It's not ska, it's not punk, it's not rock but it's great,

When I bought this CD at Amazon.com I expected some catchy ska/skunk band but the pilfers are not. My mom asked me if this was Bob Marley but no, there sure are some raggea elements, but it's not even close to Bob. Some songs sound a little like early Dog eat Dog, but it's different. I can't really explain how the pilfers sound like but I know one thing. I love any kind of ska or punk and this is my favorite CD.

The most progressive, forward leaning band in the scene.,

It is an absolute tragedy that this band broke up. The Pilfers are the only Ska band that pushed the envelope, and were taking the music and scene in a whole new direction. It is a shame this band isn't bigger than it is. It combines ska with techno, with reggae and punk to form a mind-blowing combination of anthems, ballads, dance hall blowouts, and in-your-face energy. The music is ska-derived, with a fresh hip-hop/electro element and punk/reggae progression. It's difficult to describe as the music is so unique. Solidarity, unity, the album is uplifting and revitalizing to the listener. The band is even better live than recorded, and the show I went to in Atlanta had more energy than any show I've been to in the last five years. If you are even remotely interested in the scene, buy this album, and see where ska could have gone. These guys were on the cutting edge of the fourth-wave, and unfortunately, were a band before their time. Coolie, Vin, wish you guys were still around. Thanks for the best album I've bought in years.

Even Better Live,

I love these guys! I bought their CD after hearing them live in New Haven with a bunch of my friends. They Rocked, they played for over an hour and a half, doing everything from both CD's (The first one you can only get at the shows) I'm going to see them again in a couple of weeks cause they just rule. They've got sort of a first wave ska thing going, when ska was still based on Regga and jazz. It's awsome

One word: OUTSTANDING,
By Jon (NC) - See all my reviews

This is a great CD, and a really great follow up to their s/t release, this band is going places. My favorite tracks are: "Choose Life", "What's New", "Why", "Skungle", "Legal Shot Pam Pam" (That's right, the old Toasters song), and "My Time Now". Actually, I'd put every song on the CD up there if I could do that, but I can't. If you want typical ska/punk/hardcore, don't buy this CD, if you want good music, buy it, and listen to it everyday like I do.And if you think their CD is good, you have to see them live, they are the GREATEST thing to ever hit the stage.

Pilfers have done it again. They've made another record full of hardcore reggae and fast paced ska. This band deserves to start blowing up and with this new major lable CD I hope they do. If you ever get a chance to see them live do it.

This cd is tight. It has a great flow to it. The Pilfers are making a great name for themselves. They are very talented and I hope they keep the fast paced ska/reggae rock alive. If you want to check out another Coolie Ranx song, buy Reel Big Fish's latest album, the song is one of his best.

The Pilfers--Start of a Revolution,

This album is amazing. Growing up in the ska scene in Chicago through the late 1990's, this album made it all huge to me. Great guitar riffs, provacative lyrics, and great bass make this album one of my top five.

Something new in the ska scene!,
By Adam Shumaker (Vancouver, WA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Chawalaleng (Audio CD)
This band has no specific genre. If anything ska would be the main focus of this band but many other styles come shining through. Trombonist vinnie nobile: ex member of bim-skala bim is a tornado on the t-bone. With him in the band there is no need for a horn section. Coolie Ranx lays down the vocals with a smooth hip-hop reggae feel. There is a lot of hip-hop influences but it is mostly ska and reggae with traces of punk which truly come through. THe lyrics are heartfelt and soulfull and very uplifting, this is very skankable. much respect.
