5.0 out of 5 stars Loving Seattle....now for less December 23, 2010
Format:Paperback
Whether you're visiting Seattle as a tourist or living here as a resident this book is for everyone. I moved to Seattle nine months ago after having come here for vacation the year before. I'm still learning my way around the city and now with this book can do more for less money. Food, drink, fun....it's all in here.

5.0 out of 5 stars Having fun for no money December 20, 2010
Format:Paperback
This book is a great reference guide of Seattle bargains, for natives and visitors alike. The topics are well organized, and the listings are concise and readable. Even though I pride myself on knowing about local bargains, this book is full of hidden gems such as cheap theater/movie tickets and low-cost massages. As an added bonus, David Volk's writing is not only informative but quite funny. This is a bargain, no matter what you pay!

2.0 out of 5 stars I prefer the interwebz October 14, 2012
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
Save your pennies and don't buy this book - just use the magic of the interwebz to find out the same stuff: Yelp, Craiglist, friends, museum websites, freecycle. By the time I got the book it was already outdated. And now I'm out, like, 5 bucks.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Guide to Seattle for People on a Budget December 18, 2010
Format:Paperback
Don't let the snarky title put you off. This book is a useful addition to anyone's collection of northwest travel guides, especially in these tight economic times. I've lived in Seattle most of my life, and I still discovered some new freebies. I'd also recommend this book for newcomers on a budget who want to learn more about this wonderful city.

I've seen much better guides to the city of Seattle. I'd take a pass if I had it to do over.

More About the Author

David Volk is a hell of a nice guy who has never been mistaken for meatloaf. While there are those who claim that he was born and raised in Southwest Florida, he continues to maintain that he was raised by wolves outside Zagreb. He knows that there are nay-sayers who say there are no wolves in Zagreb, but who are you going to believe?

Volk is the author of "The Tribe Has Spoken: Life Lessons From Reality Television," "The Cheap Bastard's Guide to Seattle" and the updated edition of the guidebook, which he modestly refers to as "Cheap Bastard II: Revenge of the Bastards," due out in November 2013. He's not sure why, but he hears rumors that the book could actually be available as early as October 2013.
