I wrote the Cheap and Easy! appliance repair series for people who are fairly mechanically-minded, but just need a little coaching when it comes to appliances. Can you change the oil or spark plugs in your car? Most appliance repairs are no more difficult than that; diagnose the problem, change the part. A few tips and tricks, when necessary. In the manuals, I *do* inform you of how to diagnose more difficult problems (such as sealed system problems in refrigerators.) In these cases, depending on the diagnosis, I will advise you to call a professional service technician or scrap the machine; at least you will be able to make an informed decision. To my experience, these represent less than five percent of all appliance repairs.

This book is for only a few type of repairs and for a few type of dishwashers. It will only help with the most basic repairs. (Replacing a dishrack for one example) Also, if you have a dishwasher with the electronic (digital) timer, forget this book, it won't help at all. Furthermore, there is a chance that your type of dishwasher will not be mentioned (at all) in this book; mine was not. I had a problem with a drain flapper and this book did not help at all with this problem. In fact, my brand of dishwasher had a diagram of the pump/motor assembly in the book but it did not match at all with my actual assembly.

This book is fine for a general look at some problems but I prefer more details and diagrams for a specific model.
i.e an exploded view of parts location, parts number list ect.

This book is exactly what the title says it is. It takes you through most simple repairs for dishwashers, (most repairs). Nothing more complicated than simple household tools and a Volt-Ohm meter is required. Don't have a Volt-Ohm meter. The book tells you how to find one and how to use it. This doesn't mean you won't have to lie on the floor or won't get wet. It just means that you won't have to pay someone else a lot of money to so something you could have done if only you knew how. There is also a section on preventative maintenance that's so good, I intend to make my thirteen-year-old read it. If you have read any of Douglas Emley's other books, this one is no different. High praise indeed.
