5.0 out of 5 stars Kids are not small adults!
I bought this book after hearing Dr. Buff on the radio (WDBO-AM). He gives tips (tricks) that are obvious but you'd never think about them until you READ them! So I read the entire book in one weekend and earmarked the tips I wanted to try, one at a time.

I'm disenchanted by this author. I bought all three of his books here on Amazon and thank goodness I bought them used or else I'd be livid! What a waste of time. No such 'trick(s)' in this book! Just common sense stuff that you already know. It's all a marketing ploy to get you to buy a book that promises psychological tricks but when you read it, there's no tricks, but...

I bought this book after hearing Dr. Buff on the radio (WDBO-AM). He gives tips (tricks) that are obvious but you'd never think about them until you READ them! So I read the entire book in one weekend and earmarked the tips I wanted to try, one at a time.

For me, the most profound was that kids between 7 and 12 can't understand adult logic, even if you use simple words in their vocabulary. The next trick I tried for one of the kid's birthdays - I saved money, bought fewer gifts, and got THE gift that was really wanted, not just a fad gift. The third trick will start this weekend - getting the kids to eat vegetables!

Almost like having a manual for raising kids! Hospitals should provide this books as part of the New Parents gift bag.

As a grandmother, watching my children raise families of their own is a wonderful experience. But, as we all know, we need a little help now and then. When I read Cheap Psychological Tricks for Parents by Dr. Perry Buffington I knew help was here! I immediately passed the book along to my daughter and then my daughter-in-law who both have toddlers and school age children.

The book is well-written, easy to read and holds the attention of the reader to the end. As I read the book I was taken back to the time when my children were little (especially in the chapter "Eat Your Veggies"). How many times did I struggle trying to make my kids eat those veggies, and how many times have I watched my kid/parents do the same thing? Well, Dr. Buff
settled that argument - just hide the veggies inside something the kids do like.

Thanks Dr. Buff. Your other books have been great and we'll be looking forward to your next release.

5.0 out of 5 stars Finally...the manual I've been looking for!, May 28, 2003

My wife and I always joked about losing the 'manual' on childraising. We have been so pleased with this book! It covers every age (we have a 12 and 6 year old) and it's helped us out of many tight spots. We actually learned a thing or two ourselves.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must read for the favorite Auntie!, February 26, 2005
This review is from: Cheap Psychological Tricks for Parents: 62 Sure-Fire Secrets and Solutions for Successful Parenting (Paperback)
Read this book, even if you don't have kids of your own. I am the favorite aunt to three little darlings, and Dr. Buff's parenting book helped me learn the tricks to providing a wonderful experience when Mom was not around! Of course, as Dr. Buff will tell you on the radio, TV or in one of his fantastic lecture sessions, consistency is the key to raising children. That's why I bought this wonderful book for my sister, and she keeps it by her bedside as a reference book.

I have often wondered why you need a license to drive a car, but not to raise a child. The twists and turns you navigate while learning to be a parent will certainly rival the curviest road. Dr. Buff is wonderfully insightful and hilariously funny! This is the Owner's Manual they should send home from the hospital with new parents! Dr. Buff - Thanks for straightening the curves!

i'm a first-time mom and have realized over the past year that these primal little creatures definitely have one up on us new parents. it's good to know there's someone on MY side with tips and tricks -- really just good common sense -- to help even the playing field somewhat (pun intended). dr. buff's practical, real-world tips offer help from babyhood to adolescence, so i'll be keeping this guide handy as my toddler grows!

I don't know what I used to do without some of these helpful little gems! This is such a fun book to read that one almost forgets that it is full of useful, well-researched advice for parents. The best part of all is that the advice works! The financial investment is minimal. The enjoyment and rewards are invaluable.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great thoughts for Daddy on the go!, June 5, 2005
This review is from: Cheap Psychological Tricks for Parents: 62 Sure-Fire Secrets and Solutions for Successful Parenting (Paperback)
I travel alot and my wife gave me this book for airplane reading. At first I laughed at the title, but I found after reading, it gave lots of good pointers for when I am with my 3 children. I'm not home to apply these principles for the day-to-day activities like my wife, but it really helped me maximize my quality time by providing me with quick responses to situations that I may not have been prepared for. Are you going to write a book to help me when they are teenagers?

That's so hard to do I need a psychologist to tell me how it's done.

1.0 out of 5 stars Bought as a gag gift, and man, what a joke it is, April 26, 2005

There's nothing new in this book, and no 'psychological tricks' either--it's full of the same old regurgitated bad advice other know-it-all would-be childcare experts have offered. His storytelling advice alone is laughable, and clearly comes from a person that does not often engage in storytime with kids.

The worst offense, however is the shoddy fact-checking that allowed an urban legend to slip into the book--that old myth about kidnappers whisking children away into bathrooms for a quick haircut, dye job and change of clothes before making for the exit. (Don't believe me? Check out Snopes.com and read for yourself.)

Don't waste your money on this book, just use a little common sense.
