Editorial Reviews

If you're searching for striking musical innovation, that's really not what the Beltones are about, but if you're looking for a solid dose of old-school-inspired punk, then Cheap Trinkets may be just your pint of lager. Bill McFadden and Bob Sessions crank their guitars with plenty of downstroke fury and just enough melody to keep you listening; Will Thomas and Mike Mutti hold down the rhythm with authority and muscle, and while McFadden's growling bellow doesn't have a lot of range, he packs more than enough dramatic impact to compensate.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great though not superb November 24, 2002
By A Customer
Format:Audio CD
I had no pretenses that the Beltones could come up with a full-length album on par with their incredible "On Deaf Ears" EP, and I guess this album proves me right. No matter, this is a great album nonetheless, brimming with catchy punk tunes, meaningful lyrics, etc. It just isn't nearly as potent as the EP: won't make you struggle to catch your breath and wipe the sweat off your brow. On the other hand, that makes this album far more ear-friendly, and will induce more frequent listens. Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars beltones rule June 18, 2002
Format:Audio CD
I knew I'd end up loving this album the first time I heard it. The Beltones remind me of older swingin utters. This album has become one of my favorite purchases this year. If you like street punk / oi stuff (Blitz, oxymoron, old dkm, us bombs) then check out this album. Check em out live if you can. Drink a bunch of beer and jump around and they'll come back to your town.

5.0 out of 5 stars Underappreciated Street Band January 4, 2014
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
If you haven't listened to--or don't own--this album, do yourself a favor and get it right now. Same for On Deaf Ears; seriously, find out what you've been missing out on.

As for as the better of the two albums? I consider them to be on par with one another, but some of my friends prefer this one.

Fun fact: Johnny (from the Swingin' Utters) did the cover art for On Deaf Ears.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great album May 5, 2013

This is a great album. This great punk music from this period. The singer has a very distinctive gravely voice which will probably make you love the music or hate it.
