I love finding ways to do things better without spending extra money and in less time. If we are honest, I guess we would all admit that there are some tasks that we really wish we could get done cheaper, better, faster. I've been known to take a few shortcuts in my actions - sometimes that's not a bad thing. Of course, when you're cooking an elaborate meal or creating a masterpiece quilt, it's never a good idea to cut corners But how would you like to be able to cut out some steps that just take too long and get the unpleasant tasks done quicker?

If your life is too busy, cluttered or disjointed to sit down and read a book or research a tip on the internet, this book is for you. Cheaper, Better, Faster is a collection of over 2,000 Tips and Tricks to Save You Time and Money Every Day. Here are just a couple of the tips that stuck out to me. But of course I can't tell you what the tip is. You have to read it for yourself.

Make Santa Boot prints with baking soda.
Use washcloths and fabric softener instead of dryer sheets
How to keep potatoes from turning yellow
Terra Cotta Flower pots for storage
Create a playing card holder with plastic lids

How to Use this Book:

I have had this book for over a month. I have kept it sitting on my shelf or on my end table. That way, I can just pick it up, read a few tips and move on. It's perfect to use as a resource guide. After all, you never now when you may plan to paint your stairs and feel the need to get your family exercising at the same time.

Great read! Worth the time!

I love books about saving money--especially ones full of tips. So, I was glad to review Cheaper, Better, Faster by Mary Hunt. This book is really a revised edition of her book Tiptionary. I remember having a copy of this book about ten years ago. The tips were only broadly divided and lumped together. It was one of those books that you could leave in the bathroom for reading when you just needed something light for a few minutes (similar to Uncle John's Bathroom Reader).

When I read the introduction to this book, it sounded like it was a new and improved version of the old one. I didn't find this to be so. Improved to me would have been an improvement in the formatting and the ease of use of this book. I am the kind of person who loves charts and being able to come back to information easily. This book is really formatted for bathroom reading, like the old one. It can be read 1/4-1/2 a page at a time. It can be read in any type of order. It is simply a book to read for fun--for ideas. As the author says in the beginning of the book, no one could do all of the ideas in this book in their lifetime. You can just look through and find the ones that sound fun to try!

If you love money saving tips, but would prefer to browse through them in book form than on the internet, then you'll enjoy this book. My mom enjoys it, but I don't like it as much. It's hard for me to find my way around it and at this point in my life, I prefer organized books of tips that I can use and refer to easily rather than ones that need me to sit down and read. My life just doesn't allow for that right now. But, my mom, who's in her 60s, does have the time to sit in the evenings with a book and a cup of tea.

So, that's how I'd describe this book. It's for folks who have time to sit, but not for those who don't!

Please note that I received a complimentary copy of this book for review from Revell Books.

I'm a huge fan of Mary Hunt, and this book did not let me down. It's a little different from some of her other books since its a culmination of tips and tricks but it is such an awesome resource. There are literally tips for anything you could think of. I'll be grabbing a bunch of these for Christmas presents for the fam!

I really like the layout. You can quickly scan the pages to learn random things or you can go by chapter, of which there are 16.

Automobiles, Cleaning, Cooking, Gift Giving, Kids, Laundry, Pets, and Travel to name a few.

Did you know you could cut a hole in a paper plate to use as a hand mixer guard? ~Found in Food and Cooking pg. 128

or this one:

To make the kiddie pool less slipper add those bathtub decals to the bottom. ~Found in Outdoors and Garden pg. 331

This book is FULL of these little tidbits. Over 2000 of them. It's one of those books you can read and say to yourself "Wow. I never thought of that."
A lot of it is common sense, but a lot is new information as well.

I give a 3.5 out of 5 stars
I received this book free in return for my unbiased review

The tips in this book are pretty good. I found a lot of good ones. I had trouble finding them a second time, easily. The tips are organized by general category.. household, automotive, etc. I had some trouble finding things a second time because I have to remember what they were titled.
I found that a lot if the cleaning tips were fantastic. I'm working through the book. I just started writing this stuff down. that way I don't have to go looking for what I need when I've started cleaning ( or whatever).
Overall, great book. Could be organized better.
