Editorial Reviews

This is a sound effects tape that accompanies Dramatic Publishing's play script of Cheaper by the Dozen. The cassette liner lists the name of each effect in the sequence that they occur, and includes the length of each sound effect and the page of the script that each occurs on. The sound effects are set up on the audio cassette in the sequence that they occur in the script. Sound effects include old songs, a dog barking, phones ringing, car doors slamming, cars starting up and driving away, German and French language records, motorcycles, doorbells, an old victrola playing, and horns honking. All are appropriate for the period of the early 1900's.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Time and Money Saver, July 6, 2008
This review is from: Cheaper by the Dozen Dramatic Fx (Audio Cassette)
I used this for my first full length production of Dramatic Publishing's Cheaper by the Dozen, where we had limited production facilities in a middle school. It made my life so much easier, not having to search for period sounds of the early 1900's. It was easy for my students working sound to follow the sequence of sound effects that were already set up and match up the cues with the script. Although the script is old-fashioned by today's standards, my students had an enormous amount of fun working on it--with 12 children's parts to cast, as well as parents and other roles, there were lots of opportunities to be on stage. Set in the early 1900's, the play gave the students a comfortable stretch in working in period style for the sets and costuming. The unique philosophy and values of Frank Gilbreth, the father, was refreshing both for the performers and audience. Portrayed as a hands-on father, despite a hectic business life, he instilled in his children an attitude of reaching one's full potential and striving always to achieve to the fullest. The script is based on the full length autobiography, Cheaper by the Dozen.
