Classic case of a picture not showing everything,

I have a variety of electronic humidity monitors in every room in my house to assist with my humidifiers due to my sever excema. I know this is more geared toward monitoring a cigar humidor, but a humidity gauge is a humidity gauge. I bought this because although I'm tech geek I love analogue watches and anything else with dials and gauge meters. Just touching this gauge you feel like you are going to break it; glass or metal (or something) shavings always end up in my hand if I touch it. The metal surrounding the glass bezel is whatever the cheapest alloy there is, plus it's not that accurate. As I said, I have an electronic humidity monitor in every room and when put them all together they will almost universally read the same humidity level, maybe a percent deviation at most. I'm not sure what the gauge is "reading"...it is always +-10% at the least off, but it can be as much as 25%. At a distance it looks like a kinda cool antique, so I have it set on shelf with my vintage Transformers and Star Trek models from when I was a kid. It's more of an ornament than anything that actually works.

Hygrometer review,
This review is from: Brass Analog Hygrometer (Health and Beauty)
When you look at the photo of the hygrometer on the website, it is very appealing, but the picture is deceiving. This hygrometer had no dimensions on which to base it's size. It is only 1" in diameter, which is very small. I had hoped it to be at least 6" so it was very upsetting when I got it. It was a gift for someone and I was quite embarrassed to give it to the person.

Ordered two of these at separate times. The first I tried to calibrate using the wet cloth then salt test and it was about 5% of. Reading online articles about how to adjust by using a tiny screwdriver, I tried it and low and behold mine was not adjustable. So after extremely messing that one up, I ordered a second one. It arrived along with a few other things I ordered and it was shattered during shipping. Contacted the seller and they were fantastic about getting me a free replacement. After calibrating that one, its approx. 22% off. Since then I have learned my lesson about analog hygrometers, don't buy them unless you know it is a reputable brand. I found that Xikar's digital hygrometer is by far the best. Yes you pay quite a bit for one, but it pays for itself when you are trying to keep you cigar stash in excellent condition. I am currently using it in my humidor of 50 and its working fabulous.

Ordered and was very excited to calibrate and place in my humidor when to find that glass was broken!! I called cheap humidors were kind enough to send another one at no charge. Recieved today and to find that this one to the glass was also broken! It looks like it was broken before they even shipped it because the box looks like it has had others on top on it. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME. I'll be sure to call AGAIN Monday morning and ask for my money back.

I bought this for my new humidor. I just had to calibrate it and it works fine. Nice purchase for a inexpensive price.

This little hygrometer is intended for use in a humidor. I use it instead to take readings in my home to determine if I should add back a little water vapor while running our wood stove or run the air conditioner in warmer weather to protect our electronic devices.I tested the accuracy of this little device by taking it outside onto our porch and comparing it to the humidity reading from WeatherBug. This little device agrees with the readings from the Internet weather site. When I take it back into the house, I get a different reading and that is the reading I'm interested in and confident in because of this test. Of course, it's always good to conduct tests again periodically. The range marked "ideal" on the hygrometer's dial is only for cigars. For humans the ideal relative humidity range is somewhere between 30 and 60 percent. Ignoring the device's recommended ideal range for cigars (as one should not smoke one should not care about what is good for cigars) and regarding instead the readings off of the hygrometer for human comfort purposes, this is a useful little device at a very affordable price.

The hygrometer I got is always 35% off what the actual RH is. It is either not able to be calibrated or I can not find a screw that is tiny enough to turn that screw in the back of it.Don't buy this hygrometer.

I had bought some of these a few years ago to place around the house to monitor humidity in the house, not in a humidor - basically I was looking for issues w/ moisture and also trying to calibrate my humidifier so as to not require any fiddling. Those ones were the ones pictured in the advertisement, and after calibration they worked fine. Now I am doing the same thing at my new place so I ordered a new batch. These actually appear to be higher quality; the metal is heavier. However, they are all badly out of calibration (the other ones were within 5%) and I just tried to adjust them and two out of four don't adjust - one has a catch in it so I can't get the needle to rest on 75% and the other just spins freely. Also, the face says "humidor hygrometer" which isn't a huge deal but it looks kind of dumb if you aren't using it in a humidor. I thought I'd found a good way to keep tabs on humidity in the house without spending a lot of cash, but this isn't it. Wouldn't really recommend for a humidor either, seeing as I'm experiencing a 50% failure rate.Edit: mine were sold by "The Mulpani Company" and I see that that is not who these are currently being sold by. Don't know if that makes any difference or not.

I don't have a humidor because I don't smoke and you shouldn't either. I'm in library science school, I'm in a class called Preservation Management, and in class we were taught that in archives and research and academic libraries, books and information media are stored at 30-40% relative humidity, or sometimes up to 55% RH. So, for the heck of it, I wanted to see the RH of my apartment. Also the class taught that there is a danger of mold growth and an increased risk of humidity loving pests, like silverfish, when the RH is over 65%.I calibrated this hygrometer by filling the cap of an empty 8oz mayonaise jar with salt and adding a few drops of water and then putting the cap along with the hygrometer in a bigger 16 oz jar and screwing the lid on tight and with the jar sideways at room temperature for a day and them quickly used a knife to turn the screw slot on the back of the hygrometer to adjust the dial to 75%. The dial has been slowly fluctuating between just over 70% and just under 40%. While I have no way to know exactly how accurate this hygrometer is, and there are sling psychometers and very expensive recording hygrothermographs and data loggers used by museums and research libraries and archives, for the price this little device is perfect for my needs.

This cheap hygrometer could not measure the humidity within fifty percent accuracy. Is is totally worthless. I suggest that you choose to buy something a little more expensive.
