Editorial Reviews

From Library Journal

Emerson (The Cheapskate's Guide to Las Vegas, Citadel, 1994) aims at low-budget travelers who don't want to spend more money than necessary. However, frugality is not without its perils. Restaurants and hotels are often cheap for well-deserved reasons. Unappetizing meals and fleabag hotels can leave a wallet full but ruin a trip. Emerson is adept at judging when spending a few dollars more is worthwhile and when it isn't; this is her book's greatest strength. Written in a frank but noncynical manner, this guide is chockablock with information, both basic and esoteric; those venturing abroad for the first time will find it more useful than would more experienced travelers. London is the most popular destination for Americans going to Europe, and many good guidebooks are already available to the city. Nevertheless, this straightforward, thorough volume is a welcome addition. Highly recommended for public libraries.?Mary C. Kalfatovic, Telesec Lib. Svcs., Washington, D.C.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Real Vacation Saver, August 28, 1997
This review is from: The Cheapskate's Guide To London: Hotels, Food, Shopping, Shows, Day Trips and More (Paperback)
Having just returned from the UK, I found this book to be the most valuable asset that I took with me. It should be a must for anyone who is traveling independently to London. This was my third trip to London, and at this point I do not care if I ever return to that city. With these strong feelings of dislike, if it wasn't for the fact that I had this book along to tell me about those little side trips, the ten day stay in London would have been a real drudge. The timetables for the trains were off a little, but that can be easily ignored. The only thing that is a must to enjoy this book to its fullest is to have a BritRail Pass. Great Book, Highly recommended. Gregg Gillespi
