Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly

Lily Forrester, the edgy California crusader for justice who got away with killing the criminal she thought raped her daughter in Mitigating Circumstances (1993) and whose daughter took care of the real rapist in Buried Evidence (2000), tangles with a female serial killer in this unsettling thriller from bestseller Rosenberg. Now a Ventura County judge, Lily becomes friends with lawyer Anne Bradley, an attractive single woman new in town. Lily, whose marriage to her second husband, Bryce Donnelly, has been showing signs of strain, has no idea Bryce is a philanderer and a potential victim of Anne's Alibi Connection, a referral club that helps Anne find and kill adulterers. Mary Stevens, the likable FBI profiler who gets on the trail of unsolved homicides leading to the mysterious Anne, provides relief from the angst-ridden Lily and the book's villain, a man-hating sociopath whose portrait Rosenberg at times sketches with too heavy a hand. More About the Author

Nancy Taylor Rosenberg is an American writer. She attended school at Gulf Park College in Gulf Port, Mississippi. She has three children, three step children, one adopted child, and currently resides in Dallas, Texas.

Rosenberg's first novel, MITIGATING CIRCUMSTANCES, was published in 1993, and the film rights were obtained by Academy Award winning director, Jonathan Demme. Rosenberg novels have been translated into almost every language. The majority of her novels have been New York Times bestsellers. MITIGATING CIRCUMSTANCES has been described as a contemporary CRIME AND PUNISHMENT.

Rosenberg is also known for her philanthropic efforts. She received national acclaim for her writing program for inner city youth,"Voice of Tomorrow". The Board of Supervisors of Orange County voted her "A Woman of Excellence, Learning for Life" in 1994. She was featured on Prime Time Live and in People Magazine for her adoption of a child with a rare, frequently terminal illness, Methylmalonic Acidemia, or MMA. A physician in France who saw the Prime Time Live episode claimed he was curing MMA patients by means of a liver transplant. At the time, the child Rosenberg adopted, Janelle Garcia, was the oldest living survivor with MMA. No one had previously lived past the age of eighteen. Janelle received both a kidney and liver transplant and is now in her early thirties, giving hope to future generations of children suffering from MMA.

Rosenberg's family and friends have nicknamed her "Lucy" as she is known for doing unusual and sometimes hilarious things. She says she never knows what to expect when she opens her refrigerator. She once found flea solution for a fifty pound dog in her freezer. She does have dogs but none of them weigh over fourteen pounds. On one occasion her husband asked her a question while she was writing and she told him she would answer him in when she finished her sentence. When she finally answered him, he told her an entire day had passed sine he had asked her the question.

5.0 out of 5 stars A JUDGE, AN FBI AGENT, AND A SERIAL KILLER..., May 1, 2010
This review is from: The Cheater (Hardcover)
This fast-paced suspense thriller introduces the reader to a Superior Court Judge, an FBI agent, and a serial killer.

Lily Forrester has been a judge for a short time, but she comes with a tangled history, including one as a victim--along with her young daughter--of a violent rape. Other events from that troubled period in her life are secrets she cannot reveal to anyone--secrets that could completely ruin her new life.

Meanwhile, a serial killer is targeting wealthy men who cheat. Once they are killed, they are dismembered and scattered far from the kill sites. An FBI Agent, Mary Stevens, is on the case, and what she begins to uncover is chilling and provocative; her path will soon intersect with that of Judge Forrester.

Bryce Connelly is Lily Forrester's husband, who travels a lot, drinks too much, and is apparently about to engage in an illicit liaison with a woman named Anne Bradley. But there is much more to that story, as well.

The Cheater was so riveting that I literally could not put it down. Waking up in the middle of the night to read, I was rapidly turning pages to the exciting conclusion. Nancy Taylor Rosenberg's books are all so compelling, that I knew I would love this one. I was not disappointed.

Each character was fully dimensional and finely drawn, and the plot was carefully constructed so as to maximize the suspense, as it deftly alternated between the perspectives of each major character. The author is clearly versed in legal matters, with her background in law enforcement and probation.

This book definitely earned five stars, in my opinion.

3.0 out of 5 stars The Cheater, June 22, 2009
This review is from: The Cheater (Hardcover)
I have read most of Nancy Taylor Rosenberg's thrillers if not all of them. I must say The Cheater did not come up to my expectations for her. This definately was not her best effort. Do not know what she had coming out next but I hope it will compete with her earlier books as I do love her books. I was disappointed as I was looking for more.

I have read all of her books[[ASIN:B003D7JT0Y The Cheater]. I was really disappointed in this one. It was not of her usual style and I had hard time getting through it. The characters just did not feel real. I hope she does better with the next one since I am a big fan.
