5.0 out of 5 stars Pure Bobby Watson with a bonus February 27, 2014
Format:MP3 Music|Verified Purchase
On this new work by Watson & The I Have A Dream Project the harmonic sound of the front line jazz horn ensemble is immediately accessible....pleasurable....easy on the ears.
All of the musical themes are beautifully written and rendered here with more of an emphasis on composition than individual solos.
This is not to say that the instrumental solos are in any way inferior. Indeed if you liked the earlier work that Mr. Watson did with the group called 'Horizon' you will love this album. These themes presented here are appropriate always but especially during this month (Feb) when there is a nation wide focus of appreciation of the continuing Afro American saga in the United States. Some times the the music and poetry seem to remind me of the of the Sixties when MLK's words jolted the conscience of the nation.
Still this is a modern music rendered both as pure instrumentals and spoken word poetry(the bonus!). The poetry is allowed to float on a blanket of warm ensemble music. The music and the words complement each other very well .....both steeped in exquisite lyricism.
Bobby Watson is a wonderfully creative musician as is clearly evident from a review of his considerable body of work.
This album is an extension of the Bobby Watson sound/style.
My rating speaks for itself. But then I am a fan of Watson's neo-bop style.
However, you need not be a jazz lover to enjoy this record. I think that everyone will appreciate how the vocal poetry and jazz charts here are so seamlessly matched. Great job (again) Mr. Watson
Highly recommended.

Excellent project. The spoken word is thought provoking in its content of Black consciousness and spirit filled in its artistic delivery.
