5.0 out of 5 stars Record of the year any year
How come no one has selected this pearl as the record of the year? I do not understand it. This is simply one of the msot refreshing records I have heard in a while. They capture more the new wave spirit than any of the current more known bands. It is performed with great enthusiasm. I Love this record.

3.0 out of 5 stars Maybe because...
Why is it not record of the year? Maybe because, in the U.S. at least, as of Feb '06 it is only available as an import and costs $31. Give me a break!

5.0 out of 5 stars you might never want to check out., June 10, 2006

From the first driving power chord anthem "Theme From Chalets" The Chalets establish that they mean business. From there it's pretty much pedal to the metal all the way. While they occassionally rock very hard, there's no doubt that this is a pop album, and that the whole experience is all about fun. Any track could arguably be a single, although "No Style" and "Two Chord Song" are the most immediately infectious. These are the kind of songs you will find yourself drawn back to on really great days. I don't own a convertible, but if I did I would listen to this album with the top down when it was 75 and sunny.

Musically, the highlight is the vocals; it seems like all 5 members of the bands are capable of competently contributing vocals and/or harmony as needed. This focus on vocal harmony in conjunction with driving pop rock and occassionally quirky arrangements that just manage to avoid irony, gives The Chalets a unique sound that deserves to be heard not just in the US (as some previous commenters have suggested) but the world over.

I quickly released the album itself isn't as catchy as I thought it would be. -ha- That's okay, though; it was inexpensive. 8^)
