Great book for NG,
By Tyler Milloy (Washington DC) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Check Point Next Generation Security Administration (Paperback)
I've been waiting for a good NG book, and I was very glad to see this book come out. There's great stuff you can't find anywhere else, and the end of chapter reviews with FAQs are really helfpul. You can also use it to study for the exam, because it covers just about everything that's on it, and you can also get free exam questions from the book's Web site.

Best one out there (right now?),
By ShadowWeb36 (Chicago) - See all my reviews

This book is pretty good. There are a couple of weak chapters, but overall it's coverage of the material is the best I've seen out there on the market for NG. If you get your hands on a copy check out the spoofing chapter at the end--I'm not sure what it's doing in this book but its a real good read.

Excellent Reference- Can use for exam as well,

I bought this to use as a reference and to supplement my training for the NG exam- I just returned from taking my exam and although this book is not a study guide by name, it does cover the majority of information you need to know for the CCSA and CCSE NG exams, and it covers the information really well. I personally tend to throw away my study guides when I'm done with them as they tend to cover the material needed to pass the exam and no more- this book is a reference book, and covers the material needed for the exam and more. A keeper!

Best Check Point book,
By Ted (Chicago) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Check Point Next Generation Security Administration (Paperback)
This is the best Check Point book there is. I've used it to help me with using the product on my network and also to study (and pass!) the ccsa exam. I think it's the most complete of all the books, and it presents everything in a very logical, step by step fashion that makes it very easy to learn all of the features and how to use them. I thought the spooifing appendix at the end was really interesting. It says right on the cover of the book that this is kind of a free-bonus chapter, so I'm not sure why one of the reviews would complain about it. It's probably the best explanation on spoofing that I've ever read, and if someone wants to give it to me for free, hey I'll take it.

DO NOT PURCHASE THIS BOOK,
By Jonathan Weber (Arlington Heights, IL United States) - See all my reviews

it is obsolete. i wasted $150.00 on the CCSA, this book doesn't cover smart defense and is too basic for a firewall admin.

Excellent Resource,

Great book- excellent book on Next Generation. I have a couple of Check Point books on my shelf- this one is the one I find myself referring to time and time again... If you're looking for good books on this same sort of stuff, pick up the Nokia book by the same publisher- I just got my copy yesterday and so far it's excellent. These two books are a must have for any person working with Check Point products...

Great Book,

This book is very thorough and helpful for anyone who wants to use the Check Point product line. I recommend this book as it is detailed and info packed. The appendix written by Dan Kaminski who is world renowned in his security work is also a great read. This book is also a great prep for the CCSA NG exam 156-210. I would recommend this book to anyone who wanted to learn how to configure and use Check Point as well as to get more information on security in general. Good Stuff!

Comprehensive, easy to read, lots of little "bonuses",
By Christopher Huggins (Austin, TX) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Check Point Next Generation Security Administration (Paperback)
I've worked with the Check Point product for a number of years now, and we are just about to implement NG at work. I am very familiar with a variety of books that dealt with older versionsof Check Point(many of them excellent), but this book is head and shoulders above anything I've read before. I've never seen a book that covers so much, so well. Although they have it presented as an Admin. Handbook, anyone studying for the CCSA/CCSE would do well to take a look at this--if i had to describe this book in one word it would be "THOROUGH".

Excellent, covers everything,,

This book is a wealth of information. I bought it specifically for the chapter on installing Check Point VPN-1/FireWall-1 on Solaris. It was excellent. In addition, the chapters on the graphical interface and the security policy are comprehensive and very well written. Great coverage of NAT, OPSEC, and SAM. If you are using CheckPoint, pick it up.

Great resource, good review for exam,
By A Customer
This review is from: Check Point Next Generation Security Administration (Paperback)
My boss bought a copy for our department and I can't tell you how many times its been referred to for information in the last month or two. There is great coverage of everything: VPN-1/FireWall-1 installation on Windows, Solaris, and Nokia. Also coverage of SecureUpdate, security polcies, NAT, authentication, content filtering, VPNs. The advanced configuration chapter could have been beefier, but that's my only criticism of the book.
