5.0 out of 5 stars Very Funny
I liked every minute of this movie.
It made me remeber "Noises OFF" because of the fast pace and the continuous laughing it provokes.
I do recomend.

versus
2.0 out of 5 stars low end , low budget and poor direction
in this genre you are typically looking for "Juno" and "Little Miss Sunshine" - I watched these movies and laughed and cried - so I rented "checking out" - it was a complete dissapointment - low budget movies typically depend on very igh quality acting and good use of the camera and none is present here. May be the adaptation from the stage version has been very poor - it...

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic!, July 8, 2007

This film reminded me what a well written and acted film looks like. If you love smart dialogue and comedy, this is your kind of movie. I wish more films were this good.
If you liked this film, I suggest that you see "When Do We Eat".

We have always loved Peter Falk and the story line fits his age and his desires for the end of his life. He is charismatic and the relationships with his 3 children is priceless. A feel good type of movie worth watching every so often. We thoroughly enjoyed it.

May be the adaptation from the stage version has been very poor - it seems they are still on the stage and not really doing a movie.I will not recommend it

This is a charming and funny family drama. Excellent ensemble cast, with Peter Falk and Laura San Giacomo as standouts. Very enjoyable.

Take a story line with more miles on it than Peter Falk and cram it full of sit-com cliche and you have "Checking Out." The only thing missing was the laugh track. Rather than waste your time on this much ado about nothing, check out Falk as the dying Dad in 2005's "Things About My Folks," with Paul Reiser.
