4.0 out of 5 stars Can't beat it for $23
This is nicely machined out of a solid chunk of aluminum and so is solid as... well, a solid chunk of aluminum. The laser twists on/off with a nice brass recessed knob. It's small and fits right in the bags, so is good as a regular full time torpedo level whether using the laser or not.

3.0 out of 5 stars Spirit bubble too small
Although this is a very well designed and extremely well machined level accuracy suffers from the fact that the bubbles in the spirit fluid are too small to fill the space between the index lines on the vials. I tried to communicate this criticism to the manufacturer but received no reply.

This review is from: Checkpoint 390 LXi laser torpedo level (880 series) (Tools & Home Improvement)
This is nicely machined out of a solid chunk of aluminum and so is solid as... well, a solid chunk of aluminum. The laser twists on/off with a nice brass recessed knob. It's small and fits right in the bags, so is good as a regular full time torpedo level whether using the laser or not.

The missing star is because the vials' lines are set too far apart compared to the width of the bubble - it reads 'level' over too big of a range. This is fine for small, torpedo level type jobs, but makes this level useless for accurate laser leveling over distances bigger than 5' or 10'. In my mind though, any torpedo laser level in that application is only for rough estimating. So I think of the laser as just a long straight line.

This tool would be worth the money even without the laser.
