This review is from: Hold the Cheese Please! A Story for Children About Lactose Intolerance (Paperback)
This book is excellent! I bought this book for my young son who is lactose intolerant. It is a great tool that anyone can use to help understand and explain lactose intolerance. The story is great and easy for a child to understand and stay interested in. The book also teaches a great lesson about bullying which I felt was a bonus feature. I would highly recommend this book to all school age children whether they are lactose intolerant or not.

5.0 out of 5 stars Highly recommended for school and community children's library collections, May 18, 2009
This review is from: Hold the Cheese Please! A Story for Children About Lactose Intolerance (Paperback)
Hold the Cheese Please! A Story for Children About Lactose Intolerance is a softcover picturebook designed to educate young readers about lactose intolerance - whether they have it themselves, or a family member or friend has it. Simple color illustrations tell a story from a lactose intolerant boy's point of view. "'If you know these foods make you sick, why did you eat them?' 'I was being teased today at lunch by Alex for being lactose intolerant and I just wanted to get back at him.' 'It sounds like you hurt yourself, not Alex,' Nurse Lily said. I knew Nurse Lily was right." Nurse Lily teaches the boy's class about lactose intolerance - that it cannot be transmitted like a disease, and that it does not kill a person, but it means a person cannot consume foods with lactose such as milk, cheese, ice cream, and butter because they lack the enzyme that breaks lactose down. Charming color illustrations enhance this excellent and informative picturebook, highly recommended for school and community children's library collections.
