1.0 out of 5 stars This book, unfortunatly, misses it's mark
This story has a good premise-- four young African American girls get together to form a singing group. It could have been very empowering. But how seriously can you take a book with the word "girlz" in the title? Despite the line in the "Cheetah Girlz Credo" that states: "A true Cheetah Girl doesn't spend more time doing her hair than her...

5.0 out of 5 stars Growl Power!, July 18, 2000

I don't understand the review about how seriously can you take a book with the word ``girlz'' in the title? The book is called The Cheetah Girls. I found it to be cute, funny and full of spirit! I especially like the Cheetah Girls glossary in the back--I learned a few coolio words. My friends in school love the book and told me to read it--Dorinda especially reminds me of a girl I know and Galleria is like the girls you see in singing groups. I love singing groups and I hope the Cheetah Girls become a singing group--they do have ``growl power!'' and I hope they rule the world!

I loved this book!! I'm a boy, but it still was great to me. Very funny, the Cheetah Girls have developed their own language. If you want to be a singer or writer, this book and the rest of the series are perfect for you. If you read this, you'll totally agree with me!

5.0 out of 5 stars Fun read, February 15, 2012
I really, really liked this book. I read it on the recommendation of a child I'd babysat when I was a teenager, who is now a teenager herself. It's absolutely fun to read. I like how it's a series, and so you get invested in the characters.,

5.0 out of 5 stars wishing on a star, April 7, 2002
A Kid's Review
I THINK WISHING ON A STAR WAS A GOOD BOOK.ITS THE FIRST BOOK OF THE CHEETAH GIRLS SERIES.IT IMSPIRES GIRLS TO FOLLOW THEIR DREAMS.THE GIRLS IN THIS BOOK ARE MAD FUNNY.WHILE READING THIS BOOK I ALSO PICKED OF A FEW WORDS IN MY VOCABULARY LIKE BABOSA AND BOZO.I THINK GALLERIA IS A GOOD LEADER AND SONG WRITTER.HER AND CHANEL ARE THE TWO BEST FRIENDS I HAVE READ IN A BOOK.I ALSO THINK DORINDA IS A STRONG YOUNG WOMAN BECAUSE SHE WORKS AND IS A FOSTER CHILD.AT FIRST I THOUGHT ANGIE AND AGUA WERE SNOBBY GIRLS THE SHOWED OFF A LOT.BUT AT THE END I FOUND OUT THEY WERE GOOD PEOPLE LIKE THE REST OF THE GIRLS.I THOUGHT IT WAS MAD FUNNY WHEN DORINDA'S SUIT RIPPED.WELL THATS ALL I HAVE TO SAY ABOUT THE BOOK. ~*#1 CHEETAH GIRL FAN*~

This story has a good premise-- four young African American girls get together to form a singing group. It could have been very empowering. But how seriously can you take a book with the word "girlz" in the title? Despite the line in the "Cheetah Girlz Credo" that states: "A true Cheetah Girl doesn't spend more time doing her hair than her homework," these girls seem to spend most of their time discussing clothes and fixing their makeup. Or maybe doing their hair and discussing their clothes *is* their homework-- they do, after all, attend "Fashion Industries High." The book is full of nicknames, "cute" misspellings (as one character proudly announces: "I spell words 'anyhoo I pleez'") and inside jokes-- reading this book can at times feel like deciphering a secret code. The idea for the book was good, but it needs a lot of work.
