Great Louisiana sing-a-long book!
When sung to the tune of "Aiken Drum", this book truly comes alive! My class requested it over and over again! In fact, they had fun making their own Chef Creoles. I can barely wait to hear it on one of Johnette's CDs. Hint! Hint! If you want fun books with a Louisiana twist, Johnette Downing is definitely a hit!

Lightweight.
Johnette Downing, Chef Creole (Pelican, 2009) Cute, though very light, song adaptation. Downing's prose is close to nonexistent, so the draw here is Deborah Kadair's collages. Pretty cool, but you'll want to pull this one from the library to make sure your child is sufficiently fascinated by them to demand repeated readings before shelling out the cash. ***
