Editorial Reviews

2003 remastered compilation for the influential French punks. Known as the first band to use synthetic percussion in a punk rock context, Metal Urbain used heavily distorted guitars, aggressive vocals, a synthesizer, & a drum machine to create some of the most original music of the punk era. Their fans include Robert Smith, Henry Rollins, Steve Albini, & Mike Watt. Features 35 tracks including previously unreleased mixes & demo versions along with 1 bonus track, 'Lady Coke Remix 2003'. Gatefold digipak. Seventeen/EMI.

Ok this is supopsed to e essential...and it is. This is a compilation of a very famous but still somewhat obscure french punk group. The first group on Rough Trade etc...The tracks have not aged that well mainly because of sonic limitations but the energy is still there and it has an originality that was often lacking from punk groups back then. For a very long time it was very very difficult to find anything by them so this compilation is more than wellcome.
