Great for people who don't open very many cans
on May 30, 2009
If you open several cans per day, you probably need an electric opener. I open about fifty cans per year, so this opener is perfect for me. I never have to worry about cutting myself. I never have to use a fork to fish out a lid that has fallen inside a can. I never have to wiggle a lid (after an incomplete cut) to break it off. I don't devote any counter space to an electric opener. And I never, never have to clean foodgunk off the blade.
I have had two of these and each of them lasted 2-3 years before succumbing to the same problem. My current one has a Good Cook nameplate on it, but it is exactly the same design as the one pictured here. After about two years, I have found that I can no longer get a good clamp-lock and there is no resistance when I turn the crank. This is because the cylinder works itself loose from the winding crank. I have not found a way to fix this. If not for that, this would be a five-star review.
