Too Expensive for My Needs
on December 4, 2013
This is my first Potato Ricer so I do not have anything to compare it to. All I know is I am not sure what all of the fuss is about. This was relatively easy to use... but not easier than my old fashioned potato masher. I like some lumps so I had to mash a few the "old fashioned" way and add to the riced potatoes to get the texture I wanted. If you miss any of the peel, the peels get stuck inside and you have to scrape them out to keep ricing. It took me about 10 minutes to do something that normally would have taken about 3 minutes. By the time I was done most of the potatoes were cold, etc. I gave this item a neutral rating, not because of the quality of the product but because I just don't see the need for it.
As for the Ricer itself, it seems to be very well built. It is very easy to press with the "gear mechanism". Cleanup was easy... but, the only thing that is metal really is the hinges and the cup... everything else is plastic (but sturdy plastic... but I prefer not having plastic items that potentially can come into contact with hot food and leach chemicals into it)
