Good idea....with some work.,

I agree with some of the other posts. It is a good idea, but not entirely foolproof. First, fresh garlic does not last forever - every week or so, toss out unused garlic, clean with at least some hot water, and re-fill with fresh cloves. Second, the comments about odor are correct. However, there are a couple ways to overcome this: One, wipe it off with a paper towel after every use. It only takes a second. Two, store it in a gallon-size ziploc bag in the fridge. It take no more effort and space to do this. If you want to go a step further, put a little baking soda in the bag. These are effortless solutions that take maybe 90% of odors. I also keep it in the egg compartment in the door (since, ironically, it is the worst place to store eggs) as an additional barrier and quick access. For me, it does not take the place of freshly prepared garlic in nice dishes -- but it works very well for a quick addition of nearly-fresh garlic. I recommend it if you use garlic frequently, or would but for the trouble. If you buy the minced garlic in jars, you'll get your money back in a few months by using this and buy heads of garlic.

Good idea, bad invention,

Now the idea behind this is really great, toss in some fresh garlic and you can have it at the ready to squeeze. The press itslef is of bad design. A girlfriend had one in her fridge, and everything smelled and tasted of garlic. Now I am a garlic fanantic, but so much as I love the taste of galic on my palate, I do not enjoy it in Sunny Delight. The fridge was overcoem with the smel, still smelled of garlic weeks later and the Sunny D as well as milk were tossed..

I used to have a previous garlic press, similar to this one, a bit more efficent than this one, but nevertheless,I find this working just fine, with the clean up,it's a bit more messy, the pressing head is not attached to the screw, and it's very hard to pull it out, but overall, I am very satisfied with the product. An added little bonus is the cutter, I really like that feature.

It will hold at least 5 cloves. You just have to unscrew it more. I only use what I need for what I am making. Would never store garlic in it. But is does a good job. But cleaning it is the pits. Pounding it with a knife would be a lot easier or a regular press. It is soso. It is more work than it is worth.

You can store a week's worth of garlic in this guy. I like it, but it can be a pain to find all the parts after you've taken it apart to clean it. Then again, I had the same problem with my other garlic presses.

I like the way this presses the garlic, but it doesn't close tightly enough to keep odors in. After only a few2 hours, my entire fridge smelled of garlic.

This is just the BEST garlic presser you can find, it is very simple, easy and fast to use and to wash.
And you can have a lot of pressed garlic at once. Whoever saw it at my house either got one or asked me to get one for them. Simply the BEST!

I ordered two of these for Christmas presents. I previously had one of my own, and I wanted to share this great product with my friends who enjoy cooking. I find mincing garlic so much easier now. You get small pieces of garlic in much less time, and your hands do not get sticky from the garlic juice. I believe that you get better flavor by mincing the garlic. Would strongly recommend this product.

Love, Love, Love This Garlic Press,

Use for garlic pressing, NOT for garlic storage!!!!
I love, love, love this garlic press. I've been using this garlic press for at least 15+ years and it never disappoints. I can put 4 to 5 garlic cloves in at once and have perfectly crushed garlic. Some of the reviewers haven't really liked how it stores the garlic, but that has never been a problem to me, because I wash and clean after each use. I really, really like fresh garlic and even a day or two of storage affects its taste to me. So, its no problem for me to just use fresh garlic each time. It is so easy to clean - just take apart and put into the dish washer. When you compare the effort needed to use a traditional garlic press, this saves SO much time. I love to use garlic in my cooking, and I think this is the one item I would really miss not having in my kitchen. I currently have two - just in case one of them is in my dishwasher and am thinking of getting a third, because there is a little change in its design. |
