You will love this little gadget and you will want more to give to friends who love to cook. This is an ingenious chopper that minces fresh garlic perfectly. I would much rather use fresh garlic in recipes but garlic presses are too hard to squeeze and often leave wasted slivers. This little gizmo is easy to use, easy to clean and small to store. Throw out your garlic...

We use a lot of garlic on a daily basis in most of our dinners. This was a cute gadget we got for a gift, and I was curious to see if it worked better then my other garlic chopping methods.

For a REALLY big lot of garlic, I use my Ninja Food Master Prep. Otherwise for everyday cooking, depending on the size I need the garlic, I will either use a microplane which is fast and efficient, or a good sharp knife. I personally like to do chopping and prep work, so I didn't neccessarily need a "garlic gadget".

While this item works fine, it only does a couple cloves at a time, and seems like a total pain to scrap out over and over. If it was larger, it would make sense. It might be a nice accessory to have for someone who only likes a hint of gasrlic, but for the garlic lover, look elsewhere.

2.0 out of 5 stars Don't Bother, December 30, 2009

I bought this b/c it was cute and I thought it might make chopping lots of garlic easier. It's more work using this then just chopping by hand. It gets jammed up easily. It's hard to get the garlic out and so much garlic is stuck on the blades, inside parts, against the walls that it wastes a lot. I would say you get half as much garlic as you would if you chopped the same amount by hand. Then to make it all worse, it's a pain in the butt to clean. The only reason I'm giving it 2 stars rather than 1 is b/c it's cute and b/c the garlic you do get from it is chopped up well.

1.0 out of 5 stars I wanted it to work..., August 20, 2009
This review is from: Chef'n Garlic Zoom, Avocado (Kitchen)
I wanted this to work, I really did. It's so cute! How could you not love it?

Well, it doesn't actually cut garlic. At all. It can get a blade about a third of the way through, then it just kind of scoots along the counter, pushing the clove in front of it. No increase in speed or pressure will power through.

It's a pain to clean, too, but since you'll probably only use it once before giving up on it, that hardly matters.

I honestly think that the people who gave this thing positive reviews work for the company that makes it or something. This product *does not work at all whatsoever*! One reviewer hit the nail on the head when s/he described its "scooting" action, which it does with aplomb. If you want something that does the job much better, no fuss, no issues getting the garlic out of the ridiculous chamber, actually creates evenly sized bits (my 4 year old niece cuts more uniformly sized pieces), buy a garlic press. Any garlic press. You could pay me and I wouldn't use this thing.

I would much rather use fresh garlic in recipes but garlic presses are too hard to squeeze and often leave wasted slivers. This little gizmo is easy to use, easy to clean and small to store. Throw out your garlic press and get a Garlic Zoom. The only slight problem with it is that you have to swipe out all the little pieces that may get down in the crevices. If I am cooking with liquid, I just rinse it into the pot with water or stock or whatever. Otherwise you will have to shake it hard or wipe it out with a small utensil.

1.0 out of 5 stars Glad I didn't buy this for myself, January 23, 2010

My mother bought this and insisted that I try it since I was planning on making a dish with a large amoung of garlic. I am glad I didn't spend my own money on it. I will never use it again. You can get better results with a garlic press or a knife and cutting board. Most of the garlic stuck to the blades and when I tried to get it off I dropped the blades in my sauce pan. Save your money and don't bother with this toy.

2.0 out of 5 stars Cute But Impractical, October 11, 2009

Buy this product if you want a cute gadget to chat about with your guests. I give it 2 stars because it is impractical. I can maybe fit in it 2 small cloves of garlic, which must be cut in half (thus getting my fingers smelly), before I begin the struggle of rolling the wheels which get stuck as the blades try to slice into the garlic pieces but not before they leave black marks on the counter top like another reviewer mentioned. I try to roll it as gently as possible, but I fear another few times and the rubber strip will fall off the wheels. Some rubber has already detached itself from the product. But it works. Eventually. Then, I have to stick my finger inside to dig out the garlic (again, smelly fingers problem). What I do like about it is it chops the garlic and the pieces don't turn to mush unless you roll it many more times.

2.0 out of 5 stars Cute but not efficient, October 6, 2009
This review is from: Chef'n Garlic Zoom, Avocado (Kitchen)
It does mince pretty well BUT it is difficult to achieve good traction for the wheels to cut through the garlic at first. Once the garlic is cut up a bit it does roll easier. Be prepared to wipe up black rubber streaks from the wheels if you have light colored counter tops. My biggest issue is that you lose about 25% of the minced garlic because it's too difficult to get out of the device. The garlic sticks to all inside surfaces, and in the bottom there are "ridges" that the blades to pass through where you have most of you loss. Keep looking for something better! =)

4.0 out of 5 stars Great for the arthritic, June 9, 2009
This review is from: Chef'n Garlic Zoom, Avocado (Kitchen)
Because of the reason mentioned in heading, I have days when I can't use a garlic press -- but can manage this "toy" just fine. It does a nice job and I'm getting one for a friend with similar problems. Use whatever suits you best. Just so you keep on cookin'!

I don't know, I can see the appeal of this unitasker, but it seems more trouble than it's space worthy. I seem to always poke myself with the blade too. I only use it if I need to chop a bunch of garlic, that said I rarely use it. I would have never bought this for myself. Thinking about it, if you are the type that buys pre-peeled garlic, this is probably a good tool for you.
