Amazon.com Review

Could there be a more whimsical way to chop or mince garlic? Simply insert a few peeled cloves in the top "trapdoor" of this little machine, close it, and roll the Zoom back and forth (with a little pressure) on the countertop. You can watch the stainless-steel blades inside doing their work through the clear body. When the chopping looks done to your specifications, open up the whole top half of the Zoom, remove the blade unit, and scrape out the garlic. Easy as pie, with no smelly hands to scrub. Another creative kitchen toy from the folks at Chef'n, the Garlic Zoom makes a great gift, gets kids involved in helping out, and is dishwasher-safe on the top rack. --Ann Bieri

Product Description

Thanks to the imaginative minds at Chef'n, chopping and mincing garlic just became fun. Remember the days when you would make the go fast noises while playing with your hot wheels? Well, fast forward to mincing garlic in your kitchen--grab the Garlic Zoom and relive your childhood. To use this whimsical gadget, simply fill with 1-2 peeled small to medium-sized garlic cloves through the top chamber. Next, roll the GarlicZoom around your kitchen counter (with a bit of pressure). Finally, open the second chamber, safely remove the blade and empty the garlic. Perfectly chopped garlic in seconds. Trust us, your hands will be grateful and your recipe will be perfect. The GarlicZoom has a stainless steel blade and is top rack dishwasher safe.

4.0 out of 5 stars Chops Garlic to Desired Consistency--Careful on the Clean Up, December 24, 2007
By
This review is from: Chef'n Garlic Zoom (Kitchen)
This little device is almost perfect. It's fun to use, and you control the size of chopped garlic you need. (If you're a serious chef and can mince garlic behind your back with your eyes shut, you probably don't need this device.)

The minor drawback is the clean up. There are two components to this little zoom; the garlic compartment and the rotating blade. You need to be careful not to hurt yourself when separating the two and removing your garlic. But, if you're patient in the kitchen (and not accident prone), that shouldn't be a problem. Thanks for the super cool zoom, Chef'n!

5.0 out of 5 stars Love the Garlic Zoom!!!, April 24, 2008
By
This review is from: Chef'n Garlic Zoom (Kitchen)
This is my favorite kitchen gadget in years. Seriously. I try not to buy too many gadgets, because they tend to just sit in the drawer taking up space once the novelty has worn off. But the Garlic Zoom was too interesting to pass up, and so far it has earned its space in the kitchen.

Before I had the Garlic Zoom, I had two realistic options when I wanted "minced" garlic: I could mince it by hand, which works great but is time consuming and messy (my hands would smell like garlic for hours), or shove it through a garlic press which is convenient but doesn't produce nearly as nice results. The Garlic Zoom gives me the best of both worlds. It's almost as quick and easy as the garlic press (the only minus is having to disassemble it to clean it), and the results are as good as mincing by hand (better, if I'm being honest).

If you cook with garlic a lot, the Garlic Zoom is worth picking up!

3.0 out of 5 stars Chef'n Garlic chopper, quite good, July 13, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Chef'n Garlic Zoom (Kitchen)
You put smallish pieces of garlic clove in the top and wheel the device to and fro. A wheel drives rotating cutting blades. Pretty quickly the garlic is either cut or turned into a paste, depending on its moistness. You snap open the device, push out the debris and reload for another batch.

Another review mentioned clean-up. This is actually not bad, the device comes apart easily and the bits can be put in the dishwasher or soaked for a bit of a brushing out.

It takes quite a bit of downward pressure to get the wheel to grip and thus drive the cutting blades. It would be hard to use on some smooth cooktops, I use a wooden cutting board.
