4.0 out of 5 stars Useful tool, will buy another
I bought this maybe 5 years ago and am now shopping for another. I love it for mincing garlic fast and preparing smaller quantities of ingredients. It's very easy, fast, uses no power and is dishwasher safe. Prefer it to the "slap-chop" I have in the cupboard, much easier to clean. I'm a fan. The peeler is useless though.

2.0 out of 5 stars The Useless Gadget Cabinet Gets a New Addition
The concept of this gizmo is cool, I admit. Once I got it, I was disappointed in the size for one. It says you can make salsa in it....sure...for one person (maybe). It's not a time saver if it doesn't chop the herbs, and then u have to clean the lil bugger. I've gone back to using my trusty cutlery.

1.0 out of 5 stars bad quality, October 8, 2004

the peeler is so hard to use. You can easily get a $1 product which performs better. It also has bad quality, the top was just sealed with a kind of sponse, and it falls off when I firstly use it.... very disapointed.

I don't know what those other people were expecting!!
Honestly, I don't find it hard to peel garlic normally, so I don't use the garlic peeler anymore. However, I use this puppy all the time for chopping/mincing herbs, hand/cup-fulls of nuts, onions, crackers (for breadcrumbs) etc... It doesn't always come out perfectly chopped (i.e. 1 piece left unchopped, most of the rest will be chopped fairly uniformly, but also with some over-chopped powder, too). This won't replace a standard food processor for making big recipes, but it shouldn't anyway. HOWEVER- the Positives:
1. It is dishwasher safe! Wohoo!!! I just plop the whole thing in the washer after use and it comes out looking new. I have NEVER had a food processor be that easy to clean. (i.e. you put a processor bowl in the dishwasher and it'll change transparency and crack!)
2. I have a tiny kitchen with barely any outlets. I like that I don't have to search for a place to plug it in.
3. Makes a great noise- the kids love to hear it (and so do I). It's a great conversation-starter when used with company over!
4. People-powered- honestly, I need the exercise anyway! ;-)
5. Portable... You can take it camping, on business trips, etc...
6. After I load it & lock it, I can hand it to a child (even a 2 yr old) to "rev". It really helps the kids feel like they're a part of the cooking process. LOVE IT!

Overall, it is a great product, well built and well functioning. Would recommend to anybody, but esp. those who appreciate tools that add efficiency in the kitchen.
TIP: When you do use it, it does help to move/shake it while "reving it" to ensure even distribution. As with anything people-powered, it's an art! :-)

I just wanted to re-confirm to you that I am still IN LOVE with this product!! Right now, I'm using it to finely chop up mixed nuts to put on my cereal in the morning. I love that there's nothing to plug in, and it's so small to store! Right now, I just leave the chopped nuts in there, as it seals great and keeps the fresh. I just refill and re chop every few days and wash once a week or so. LOVE This product!!! (I still never use the garlic peeling feature, and wouldn't recommend buying if you have your heart set on that feature)

4.0 out of 5 stars Something of use, March 21, 2006
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Chef'n Rev'n Chef Processor with Bonus PopOut Peeler (Kitchen)
This handy little processor does exactly what it is suppose to do. It chops. It's fast, compact and easy to learn to regulate.

Once you learn to use it properly, time and speed will dictate how fine your ingredients are chopped.

This is a must have for anyone that wants something to chop quickly (smaller amounts are faster by hand) but doesn't want to bother with the electric food processor...or doesn't have a food processor (your kitchn shouldn't be without a food processor).

The included garlic peeler (just a rubber blade) is a nice addition but the blades are not easily interchanged which is also a drawback for cleaning. It takes a good tug and if you have the chopping blade on this presents some risk of being cut.

I would have given this item a 5 but for the difficulty of removing the blade and the fact that the review includes the "bonus pop-out peeler". The peeler is a complete waste of garbage can space. West Side Story Gang Fight meets The Iron Chef. It's a switchblade peeler. Throw it out when you get the Processor.

2.0 out of 5 stars It Spins! (very well) It Chops! (kinda) It Peels! (eh, yeah), February 3, 2005
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Chef'n Rev'n Chef Processor with Bonus PopOut Peeler (Kitchen)
The best thing that this little gadget does is spin.... Chopping is OK, but you do have to really work at it. It's great for someone who is uncomfortable chopping herbs with a knife or if you just want to have something relatively safe for the kids to chop with, otherwise it is a real time waster.

To its credit, this little processor does peel garlic rather well. Cleaning this thing though is a bit of a pain in the posterior. It says that it is top rack dishwasher safe, but water ends up getting inside of the chamber where the string is and it NEVER seems to dry (This happens when hand washing also, but not to the same degree). I'm glad I only paid 5 bucks for it cause I don't worth any more than that. BTW: the pop out peeler, although it has a cool switch blade type mechanism isn't worth much as a real tool.

My opinion, don't waste your money on this. You would problably be better off investing in a small electric food chopper. It cost about the same and at least you would know it would get the job done quickly and efficently.

I bought the Rev'n Chef awhile ago and think it's a killer piece of gear. Pullin the little zip cord to chop herbs and spices is a kick, and it works very well, too. What Amazon is offering here is a combo of the Rev'n Chef, and Chef'n's Pop Out Peeler which is another cool piece of gear for peeling garlic. Very good offer.
