This tool has received diverse reviews. I think that might be because the reviewers were working with different sized shrimp. None of the reviewers stated what size shrimp they were using the tool on. I have tried it on all sizes and therefore am qualified to give a more accurate review. First of all, it's a cool tool that operates in an unexpected way because none of the photos show the tool's operational method. The "blade" is actually a double blade, one that remains stationary while the other blade that's located alongside the stationary blade, pivots upwards when you squeeze the handle. While closed, you force the blade down the back of the beheaded shrimp, cutting a groove into the intestinal tract of the shrimp. You must keep working the blade down the back of the shrimp until you get all the way down to the tail, and then some if possible. Now is when you squeeze the handle. What happens is that the shell does NOT get cut, but the shell is pushed up and away from the shrimp meat, causing the shell to break on the underside of the shrimp where the legs are! The shell is then lifted up and away off the shrimp. The underside of the shrimp where the legs are, is the weakest part of the shell, so the shell simply succumbs to the force applied to the top of the shell being pushed away from the meat. Anyway, the bottom line is that the blade is way too big and clumsy for operating on smaller sized shrimp such as large or extra large. Jumbo shrimp are alright, and definitely the Colossal size work great. Forget about using this tool on small, large, or extra large shrimp. Only Jumbo or Colossal shrimp work with this tool.

This product is not very good. It tears the shrimp and is difficult to use. I would not recommend it.

It is wonderful; it takes the black stuff out of shrimps and cracks the shrimps open. I have given it for gifts, and everyone is enthusiastic about it.
