4.0 out of 5 stars Decent, but a bit slow
I love the taste of fresh ground salt -- it's much better than the canned alternative. I really like the Chef'n Salt Ball since I can grind salt with one hand -- really helpful when I'm adding salt to a recipe. My only gripe would be that it doesn't dispense a whole lot of salt on each grind... but that lets you easily control the amount of salt to dispense.

1.0 out of 5 stars Very Slow...
This salt mill fell way below my expectations and needs. It was almost impossible to mill the salt finely. The salt would clog up and require us to hit the mill against our hands to resume the grinding. I accidently dropped it into my food when milling and could not clean it out at all because the food seeped up inside the mill and there is no way to take it apart and...

It's a great combination with the Chef'n Pepper Ball. One word of warning: it's bigger than you may think. The ball is easily between three and four inches wide, and the handles go up a good distance -- maybe five inches. Don't think of this as the size of a normal salt shaker (the pictures make it hard to see how big it is).

5.0 out of 5 stars Totally "upscale" and "eye-candy", September 7, 2002

I use my pepper-ball and salt-ball right in my tablesetting ... my dinner-guests never fail to comment on the upscale look and convenience, so it has been "eye-candy" and adds to the drama when I serve crisp salads, etc. Part of the meal is being able to allow your guests the opportunity to season as they wish. I dunno, but I would also like to see the same design to allow diners to embellish plates in the same manner with grated cheese and also one for dessert-toppings that would add crushed pecans, walnuts, etc.

5.0 out of 5 stars WHIMSICAL AND WORKABLE, June 30, 2002
This review is from: Chef'n Salt Ball Salt Mill (Kitchen)
This nifty gadget allows me to grind salt with one hand as I cook. And, it's a fun addition to a dining table with its very contemporary rather whimseical design.

The handles that you grip are padded thus ergonomically friendly and enable gripping without slipping. A dial selector on the base of the salt ball provides options for coarseness of grind, and it comes equipped with a refull funnel. Plus, it comes filled with salt.

This is one grind I'll never mind! Thanks, Chef'n!

Sometimes I wish it would grind more salt at a faster rate, but I have an easier time of controling the amount of salt. Sea salt is so much better than the container salt. I bought it just for cooking, but we use it at the table, too. I also thought it was a great price.

5.0 out of 5 stars best looking fresh salt, October 29, 2000

I bought it mainly to go with the pepper grinder, but I found a charming use. I poped in a few fresh herbs from the garden - the salt did a great job of drying them out, and the herbs when ground with the salt make flavor to die for - especially on eggs. (makes the salt look more interesting too!)
