Pros: Dishwasher-safe is a HUGE plus, as I'm not going to mess around with a super sharp blade any more than I have to. Sleek and easy to store. Quality feel and attractive look. Blade is adjustable so you have some control over slice thickness. Collapsible finger guard is a nice idea so that you can get down to the very last bit of your food.
Cons: The finger guard doesn't really hold onto the food very well, the barbs that are supposed to help keep it intact aren't long/sharp enough to pierce the item. They're just plastic bumps so they don't actually grip the food in any way. As a result, you end up pressing down a lot harder than you think you should so that the food doesn't slip away. Pressing down extra hard on a mandoline is just asking for a gruesome injury.
All in all, it's not bad but I think I'll try a different brand the next time I'm in the market for a mandoline.
* The blade is serrated, and does not cut well through dense objects like potatoes
* The hand guard's points are not sharp enough to penetrate the food, so it slides around in it.
That being said, if your goal is cucumbers, zuchini, or the like, this will work very well.
This is great...I love that it collapses to save storage space and that it can be put into the dishwasher. It is easy to adjust the blade to whatever thickness you want. I like the ability to use it flat so I can slice things directly into a bowl.
My only problem is that the "teeth" on the holder/finger grip need to be sharper so they can pierce the food.
Otherwise, a pretty good buy!
I don't know much about mandolin-slicers, but this one has a finely serrated blade and requires a bit more force to slice with than perhaps a non-serrated blade; in my first use of it, I used it on a small eggplant, zucchini, yellow squash and red bell pepper. It did the job for me, and it was decent, and more importantly, it showed me a little of what to expect with a better-made one.
One criticism I've read in other reviews is that the spikes in the hand guard do not sufficiently pierce the vegetable to hold it in place adequately while slicing. I found that if I cut off the end of the vegetable, that seemed to remedy that problem fairly well.
I also found it necessary to cut the vegetable to be sliced into more manageable size, such as 2"-3" in lengths, to slice safely using the hand guard. To not do is was to court disaster because the vegetable can flip out of the hand guard, and maybe cause your hand to slip.
I also found that to slice slowly and mindfully helped. In other words, carrying on a conversation with one's 4-year old nearby, meant that I wasn't paying complete attention to what I was doing, and could result in injury. Common sense, right? Even despite the fact that I needed to slice a bit slowly, I was able to get some really thinly sliced vegetables that would have taken much longer if I did it with a knife and would have been much more dangerous.Read more ›

It's my second one. When the blade dulls you have to replace it. Be very, very, very careful! This blade is sharp, sharp, sharp! The SleekSlice is small and very portable. Read morePublished 19 days ago by suki27
Went from a handheld oxo that didn't slice evenly and was awkward to hold with out shaving some flesh while using and this thing is ahmazing. Buy this.Published 19 days ago by Brittany
It works. Not really sure about how much easier it is than just hand slicing though. The handle doesn't really work that well. Read morePublished 8 months ago by Laura Ashlee Brown
Pretty crappy and flimsy. If it wasn't stained with beets and sweet potato I would have returned it.Published 9 months ago by texan
I purchased this item from another site, but be warned. The "finger guard" is practically useless. I couldn't even get it to hold the item I was attempting to slice. Read morePublished 10 months ago by Willa Burney
the sharp blade slices very nicely and the and guard protects the user very nicely. I like that it is adjustable for several thicknesses of slices. Read morePublished 12 months ago by beanrick
