Product Description

Adding thin sliced veggies to tonight’s dinner. Try the SleekSlice, a collapsible hand-held mandoline. The mandoline’s handle rotates into 3 positions. To slice up veggies quickly, position the handle at 90 degrees or straight out to use over a bowl. For convenient storage, the handle folds underneath the body of the mandoline. A stainless steel micro serrated blade slices vegetables and fruits quickly and effortlessly. The mandoline also has two safety settings and four thickness settings for thick to ultra thin slices. The protective finger grip is designed to collapse and store within the body of the mandoline for additional storage capabilities. The SleekSlice is top rack dishwasher safe for easy cleanup.

Very quick to use and very easy to clean.

The apparatus/prongs that are designed to stick into the tomato is cumbersome and does not easily secure the tomato.

Would recommend if you are looking for a cheap and sturdy mandoline.

I'm a big fan of Chef'n products, so I was pretty excited when I saw this collapsible mandoline. I gave it as a holiday gift and we've used it a handful of times with varying levels of success. Works better with softer items - the harder the food is, the more you have to work to get the blade to cut it. For example, regular potatoes and beets (both semi-firm) work pretty well but sweet potatoes (fairly dense) are quite a struggle.

Pros: Dishwasher-safe is a HUGE plus, as I'm not going to mess around with a super sharp blade any more than I have to. Sleek and easy to store. Quality feel and attractive look. Blade is adjustable so you have some control over slice thickness. Collapsible finger guard is a nice idea so that you can get down to the very last bit of your food.

Cons: The finger guard doesn't really hold onto the food very well, the barbs that are supposed to help keep it intact aren't long/sharp enough to pierce the item. They're just plastic bumps so they don't actually grip the food in any way. As a result, you end up pressing down a lot harder than you think you should so that the food doesn't slip away. Pressing down extra hard on a mandoline is just asking for a gruesome injury.

All in all, it's not bad but I think I'll try a different brand the next time I'm in the market for a mandoline.

I picked up one of these even though I have a professional mandoline for quick jobs. Overall, I like the design of it. It stores down to one piece, and takes up very little space. A few problems though:

* The blade is serrated, and does not cut well through dense objects like potatoes
* The hand guard's points are not sharp enough to penetrate the food, so it slides around in it.

That being said, if your goal is cucumbers, zuchini, or the like, this will work very well.

This has been perfect for my needs. I use it to make homemade chips, and it has worked great on potatoes, sweet potatoes, apples, and pears. It also did a good job on my thumb...so it is plenty sharp and has stayed that way. Some people say the finger guard doesn't grip food, but I haven't had that experience. It has gripped everything I have cut when I choose to actually use it. The blade adjustment is easy, and the handle adjustment is a nice feature. I typically use it open flat over a bowl, but it also works great on an incline over a flat surface. It is very sturdy and easy to hold. It is super easy to clean and folds up so nicely. I love that the finger guard snaps on, so there aren't any loose parts to keep track of. Another great Chef'n product!

I have needed a new mandoline for a long time and finally got around to buying one.

This is great...I love that it collapses to save storage space and that it can be put into the dishwasher. It is easy to adjust the blade to whatever thickness you want. I like the ability to use it flat so I can slice things directly into a bowl.

My only problem is that the "teeth" on the holder/finger grip need to be sharper so they can pierce the food.

Otherwise, a pretty good buy!

I had been looking for a mandoline that would slice things paper thin. This is the one. It works wonderful for potato's, apples, and ham! Great for sandwich meat or making chips. It also works well on the thicker settings. Clean up is easy also. I will be ordering more to give as gifts.

I love that this is collapsible and sturdy. I have a number of other Chef'n products that I'm very happy with. However, I've found this product difficult to use. It's super sharp! As it should be. But the "protective finger grip" does not grip the vegetables very well. Slicing carrots into coins or long ribbons is really difficult. Once it gets too small to hold safely, the grip is not much help. Veggies slip out from under the grip.

This product is very convenient since I can put it in my drawer.
However after about a years use, the blade has gotten dull.
I do not use it but maybe a few times a month.
I had one of the Swissmar for probably 15 yrs before the blade was dulled
I replaced it with this... now I am going back to buy the Swissmar, even though is not collapsable.

My old mandoline's blade wore out, and a replacement for that model was unavailable. The Chef'n looked like a good, inexpensive replacement. But the hand guard is poorly designed. There's no good grip on the handle once you're down to the thin end of what you're slicing - unless you want to throw away 1/3 of your onion or tomato or whatever. So within the first five minutes after taking it out of the package, despite years of safely using a better competitor, I was on my way to the emergency room. This is, even for an expert chef with years of experience with mandolines, a dangerously bad design. It's a bargain only for those who don't value their thumbs.
