Very nice, easy to use and has remained sharp,

I got this can opener about 6 months ago and I remain happy with it. It took a bit to get used to it and at first there was a little fiddling required to set it on the can - it is a bit different to use.I have had a lot of can openers in the last few years and so far this has lasted the longest in terms of blade sharpness. A very nice surprise as I was beginning to believe all can openers became dull almost immediately! Despite my throwing it into the dishwasher it works as well as it did when I first got it. The mechanics of it - the one handed action - I think you will either love or hate. I find it very nice and can be opening the can while draining it over the sink in one motion. Setting it on the can at first can be a bit awkward but that is really a *learning curve* kind of thing and after you use it a few times it will become second nature. I will say that some cans are easier to open than others and some hand strength is required..more for some cans than others. You can use both hands to squeeze the grips if needed but if hand strength is an issue probably an electric can opener would be the best option in general. I would make this purchase again and I am happier with this can opener than any one I have bought in in the last few years.

I Have Found This Opener To Be Great,

I bought this opener a couple of years ago and have had no problems. It's easy to use. Equally important, it has lasted lo these many years. (I have never been able to get an electric can opener to work beyond a year.) But most important of all, I have only one arm and this device has been a life saver.

Recommended by Alton Brown, this is only OK. The cutter tends to go into the fluid. My simple traditional can opener seems to work better without getting the cutter blade into the can contents as often.

I love this opener. I've got one hand, so it certainly works better for me than a regular opener. The kicker is that it works so well my Dad (has his own) and my girlfriend (both with a complete set of hands) quit using their electric openers and use this one!It opens cans with only a few squeezes of the handle (4-5 as I recall) and the only flaw is that it drops the lid in the can.

Great little gadget,

We bought one of these in a Nebraska Furniture Mart for my husband. He is a stroke survivor who has lost the use of this right hand but who still loves to cook. We have always used the "traditional" Swing-away can opener (which like most things in this world are designed for right handed use) and he had kind of adapted a multi-click style of use for it. He would repeated open & close it making LOTS of little cuts in can lids but he couldn't turn the handle. Now this gadget allows him to make so much more progress with its ratchet action - he just squeezes the handle and the gears turn the can. He completely wore that first one out and NFM is a long way from home, so we found this one on-line and he's back in business. It's a little noisy, but it is worth it for him to have some independence - plus he sometimes cooks dinner so I don't have to!

A great idea that needs improvement. After arm surgery, I needed an opener that only needed one hand to operate. This opener requires "assistance" from the other hand, even if only to steady it and remove the lid.

This is a great can opener and is easy to use. You do not have to be strong to use this opener. I bought one for everyone in my family and recommended it to all my friends. I got rid of my electric opener and only use this one now. It's a great gadget to have around.

Quit working after 2-3 days,

We paid $16.95 for this can opener and thought it was pretty cool, it worked nicely for the first couple of days. (Our dog eats canned dog food so we open 3 cans a day on a regular basis.) Then it quit working. You can squeeze the handles all you want and it makes a click-click-click noise, but does absolutely nothing toward cutting the can's lid. We are returning it for a refund.

I had great hopes for this can opener. However, it was not easy to use with two hands, and certainly was not a solution for one-handed applications. Disappointed, but discarded. As Alton Brown suggests: No single use items in the kitchen. This did not qualify for even one.

This is the best can opener that i have ever owned. I can't believe how easy it is to operate and how simple its construction is. If it holds up well, I predict that i will never buy another opener. I love the Chef'n product line.
