I got the VeggiChop because I'm trying to cook from scratch more instead of buying pre-chopped mire poix from Trader Joe's or frozen chopped veggies for soups & stews.

I have a certain breaking point, where a whole lotta chopping becomes... well, demotivating, and the soup just doesn't get made (pizza, anyone?).

I also have a TINY kitchen and an electric, full size food processor is simply out of the question.

The VeggiChop brings enough variation and novelty to the chopping process to keep me on task in the kitchen. I'm using a lot more fresh vegetables in my cooking now, saving money, and enjoying the work!

Some notes...

You'll still have to clean & cut the veggies (I've tried onions, celery, bell peppers, carrots, and shallots) into chunks before they go into the bowl. And if you're doing a stock pot of soup, you'll be doing a couple of rounds of each of the major ingredients.

And the chop isn't as even or "pretty" as a good knife chop or even a food processor chop. So if it's food for a party and you want a perfect dice of red bell peppers for garnish, get out your knife.

Also, I haven't had much luck with herbs or garlic. They stick to the blades and don't really get minced, even with the little paddle attachment that's supposed to help with that. I bought a garlic twist NexTrend Garlic Twist - Clear for the garlic, and use a knife for the herbs.

And although it says somewhere in the product info online that you can chop ice with this thing... meh. Not really. Or I couldn't... Maybe if you started with those tiny hotel cubes?

However, you CAN make fruit sorbets with the thing. Mark Bittman had a recipe in the NY Times recently for simple fruit sorbets, and if you let the frozen fruit thaw slightly first, you can make a nice two serving batch very easily with the VeggiChop.

What else: Oh. Easy to clean, just be careful with the blade.

I just got the Vegichopper yesterday, so the review is based on one use---but the results are conclusive so far as I'm concerned. I chopped each of the following separately: celery, onion, zucchini, bell pepper, and garlic. Four pulls is usually enough. Just as with an electric food processor, too much chopping produces a purée: on one pass I got a little red pepper purée from 7 pulls. So check as you go.

The product is EXTREMELY well-designed: for example, it has a guard for the blades, and if the guard's on, the blades won't turn. Lid seats firmly, and cleanup is rinsing off the blade unit, rinsing out the bowl, and wiping the bottom of the lid.

The great thing is the compact size: easy to store (good for small apartments), easy to get out of storage, easy to use, and easy to like.

We like our chopper. We eat big green salads almost every night, and we include lots of chopped veggies such as carrots, celery, radish, zucchini and yellow summer squash, and sometimes hard-boiled egg. It's nice to put chunks of each into the chopper and pull the string a couple of times. The only thing I wish they had done differently is the ribbing inside. The chopped contents are pretty moist so they all stick to the walls. It's a bit hard to scrape out, which you want to do with the back of the knife you used to cut the veggies into chunks. Still, we used the upright kind of chopper for years - the kind that you whack with the palm of your hand, and we like this better, all in all. It's quicker in the long run.

I have two children and the two year old is picky about vegetables. I've chopped zucchini, carrots, spinach, broccoli, etc. into his rice, potatoes - you name it. I've only had it a week now and I LOVE IT. Sooooo easy to clean.
The kids love helping me make things by pulling the cord.

When I am done a quick wash/rinse and wipe dry and back into the drawer it goes. It is so small. Beats a food processor hands down for the every day job of chopping veggies and herbs. Note that it really chops randomly if you are looking for uniform little squares this is not the machine.
My sister had her's first and made incredible salsa for the family in a flash.
It is a great product. The only drawback I can see is the pull mechanism is a little loud on the return. But honestly if you needed to be quiet about your meal making...it is so portable you could take it outside and let-er-rip lol.
I highly recommend this for anyone. Whip up onion, celery, carrot for a soup mirepoix. Salsa, pesto, coleslaw...it is awesome!

I hate chopping things. I would rather do laundry for five days straight than chop food. I have a Cuisinart full size food processor, their smaller mini chop, and a set of top brand knives, and this is the gadget that I reach for every time. Some of the reviewers have complained that the blades don't chop everything evenly. It doesn't bother me at all, but obviously the finer the chop, the less this is a problem. I was surprised how much this holds too! I have chopped everything in this: potatoes, celery, apples/pears, onions, herbs, garlic, mushrooms, tomatoes, peppers, and nuts. It chops it all in just a few pulls of the handle. This is the smartest $26.73 I've ever spent on my kitchen!

My girlfriend got this for her birthday recently and it immediately turned into a live infomercial. Our wine-induced 'chopper' demonstrated strawberries, onions, oranges, lemons...They were chopped and not mushed. The ooh's and ahh's were endless, you would have thought we were being paid. I bought it the next week.

I have several choppers already - I have the slap-chop (the version from 10 years ago), and a smaller electronic chopper, not to mention the Bullet, but that's another story and I DON'T recommend - the VeggiChop is by far my favorite because you have more control over your end results. We all like control, right? The slap-chop (which happens to be my boyfriends favorite - I think he gets some aggression/pleasure out of it when he slams his hand down, chopping up chicken/steak with it for tacos)hurts my hand! And it's loud when those blades come down - the dogs run away when they see it. The electronic chopper is ok, but if you're not careful, it will mush up everything and then you have a lumpy, saucy ick. Which was fine with me, until the VeggiChop. It's easy to pull the little string, I get a quick, pain-free bicep workout (don't forget to switch hands) and I can make the decision on how chopped up I want my onions/cilantro/tomatoes/strawberries, etc...to be.

I give it 5 stars and it's a must-have if you want easy chopping and no mush! However, if you are making baby food or feeding another toothless being, the electronic version is great because with no effort at all, you will have mush in seconds.

Chef'n VeggiChop is a must! the blades are really sharp and cut really good. cleans up real fast! No pain on your palms or hands. No banging banging banging ending in pain. You just pull and food cuts up as small as you like it. Bowl and blades clean easy. Just make sure you dry blades and just wipe top with soap water and dry so water won't get into the top. Works like a mini blender. I bought 2. I love it! I have a blender but hate the big clean up. Get it before they are gone forever!

Such a time saver in the kitchen, easy to clean, the worst thing is that you have to chop the veggies into large pieces so that they will fit but that doesn't bother me since it saves so much time in the long run.

The product is easy to use,and is useful when you don't care about the consistency (i.e. when making bisque). If you want an even chop stick with a knife. Also, the lid should not be submerged and is not dishwasher safe. Just something to keep in mind when it comes to clean up.

I attended one of the free cooking classes at Williams Sonoma and bought it there (for a little more than it costs here, but that's probably goes without saying.)

It doesn't do huge batches, but with just the hubby and I, it's perfect. He likes to help and it's nice to be able to see how fine the chop is so you don't accidentally turn your salsa into spicy tomato soup :-)

Bought one for my learning-to-cook brother and he loves it too. Would be a great wedding or shower gift!
