5.0 out of 5 stars If you have good knives you need a good steel, December 5, 2000

If your good knives are getting dull this steel is the way to go. A few swipes every time you use the knife will bring the edge back. We have a set of chicago cutlery that has been rejuvinated with this steel.

5.0 out of 5 stars It works!, August 22, 2001

I took a...dull knife and in 1-2 min had it slicing paper with this sharpener. On my good knives 30 seconds to put on a really nice edge. I'm very pleased so far, and expect that this will be less wearing on my knives than using stones. I'll be using this regularly to put on a quick edge while cooking. Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Eventually wears out., August 30, 2008
This review is from: Chef's Choice 10-Inch Oval Diamond Sharpening Steel (Kitchen)
Works great--better than anything else--but plan on buying a new one in a few years. The surface wears out and clogs up--happens with steel sharpeners too. I am on my third of these diamond sharpeners. Worth the money if you cannot stand dull knives--but it will be a recurring expense.

5.0 out of 5 stars awesome tool, December 16, 2010
This review is from: Chef's Choice 10-Inch Oval Diamond Sharpening Steel (Kitchen)
This is an awesome tool. We have had Shun Classic kitchen knives and this sharpener for about six years. This tool keeps them factory sharp for about a year and a half before they need to be sent back to Shun for a factory new re-sharpening. Some reviewers suggested this tool wears out. I disagree. It does need to be cleaned regularly as it will clog with the fine metallic particles generated while sharpening. A little dish washing soap on the back (rough)side of a kitchen sponge works great.

At first the company sent me an 8 inch sharpening steel, however they have since sent me the correct size which was A 10 inch sharpening steel, and they also allowed me to keep the 8 inch sharpening steel which I have since donated to a local food pantry that feeds the homeless in our area. I would definitely order from this company in the future.

I gave this to my new son-in-law for Christmas. He really likes it and it seems to be a good quality.

I added this tool to my travel bag. I travel throughout the year visiting family & friends. When asked to help prepare meals and find a dull knife, a few quick strokes on the sharpening steel makes preparation fun, instead of a struggle.
